David Cassidy Tribute Concert – August 14, 2018

NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE

The David Cassidy Tribute Concert has moved to Putnam Place (instead of the Horseshoe Inn) in Saratoga Springs. The Horseshoe Inn is an outdoor venue and with the forecast of thunderstorms, there was a risk the concert was not going to happen.

Putnam Place
63a Putnam Street
Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

The David Cassidy Tribute Concert will take place 7″30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14  and will benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.

David had a passion for Thoroughbred racing, and was ardent in his support of TRF and its mission of saving former racehorses from abuse and neglect.

Members of David’s band – Teri Cote (drums), Craig Snider (keyboards/vocals); Dave Robicheau (guitar/vocals); Matt Sullivan (guitar/vocals); Vance Brescia (guitar/vocals) and Darrell Craig Harris (bass/vocals), are anticipated to perform at the event.

  1. Well done guys. Wish I could attend but I live in the UK. Can we make a donation?

  2. Wow ! Hope it will be an annual event. Saratoga Springs , David’s favourite place on Earth. Maybe one day I would go there…

  3. So wish it were possible for us all to get there, how great would that be!
In the UK too so just not on for me unfortunately.
Hope everyone going has a great time remembering David in this wonderful way.

  4. Terri; Craig; Dave; Matt; Vance; Darrell: I haven’t even seen the A&E documentary yet, but I get the distinct impression that you were David’s friends and not after a few minutes or seconds of fame… You have really moved people. Wish I could be there. All power to you. Thank you. Sian (England)

  5. Thank you to all of you in the band for doing this tribute concert .Saratoga and thoroughbred racing and saving racehorses were so close to David’s heart ,he would be pleased with this . I also live in the UK ,so I will not be able to attend . I will see if I can make a donation

  6. You were the greatest friends anyone could ask for,and so loyal to David until the end.You all have went above and beyond thank you so much David would be so privileged knowing this is taking place…….won’t be able to attend as I stay in the UK but will be there in spirit……any fans that are attending have a wonderful day.I will most definitely make a donation.

  7. Featured on The One Show in the UK, David is talking about horse racing over here – and championing the horses! Was very pleased DC cared so much for horses after their racing careers ended. I think at one time he also was involved in raising money for injured jockeys, too.

    • I think I remember seeing that episode – was David arguing about the grand national?

      • Yes, there was someone on the show as a quest from the world of UK horse racing. They were arguing that the races should be ‘challenging.’ But David said that in the US they have very few jump races, much safer for the horses, and during races such as the Grand National’ the fences should be lowered. I thought David managed to get all this across, but was very respectful towards the other guest – who I personally strongly disagreed with!

  8. Awww, isn´t it the cutest thing from his more than loyal band´s members. They were like a family and they acted that way for him. Thank you so much for honoring David, before with the EP Songs My Father Taught Me and with this concert now.
I live in Spain so I won´t be able to go but Iwill try to make a donation too.
God Bless everyone involved on this and, to our sweet angel, thank you for being you all the way from the beginning.
I will love you forever ♥

    • I wonder if the band might ever travel even further? …Castañuelas! Sian

  9. Thank you David’s band members for arranging this concert. You were loyal and caring of David which I’m sure he appreciated. It’s for a cause that David felt very strongly about and if I were able to be there I would. Will think about a donation and I hope that everyone who is able to go has a great time.

  10. Thank you Jane (Webmaster), we really appreciate being kept informed, of “all things David Cassidy”.

I will definitely contribute to this event. Unfortunately can’t be there, but will be there in spirit.

Friends, Im wishing a “Happy Father’s Day” you (male DC fans)/ your spouse/ partner (female DC fans).

Obviously we are remembering Beau, on his first Father’s Day without his beautiful Dad. I hope he is comforted by the fact that his was so loved and that David always spoke of him with real pride and paternal love.
Also that David is eternally loved and remembered by his fans.

    May God bless him

  11. Hi Deb, I’m thinking too of the first Father’s Day without David . It’s not Father’s Day in Australia until September. Yes, David and Beau were close and David expressed how proud he was of him. Sad for Beau today.

  12. I was planning to go to Saratoga Springs in August (for my birthday) to see David’s bench. Now there is this concert to go to also which is an added bonus. I can’t wait to go.

  13. What a lovely thing the band members are doing for our beloved David. I agree they were just one big family. I would love to be there also but I like in Scotland so would not be possible. I will make a donation as it was something David believed and cared so strongly about. I also remember David’s appearance on the One Show and how passionately he spoke about horse raising but I was very upset at the way he was treated by the presenters who knew nothing about horse raising and horses in general.

Thank you also Jane for keeping us updated, it is truly appreciated by all of us. God bless all his fans and I hope the concert will be recorded for us all to see. I will be truly be an honour for David and he would be so proud.

  14. David and his band now no 13 in the Billboard Jazz Album chart – great to see that ‘Songs My Father Taught Me,’ is doing so well and enjoyed by so many people. My favourite is ‘Sweet Little Angel.’ Just watched a documentary about David’s friend, George Michael, and realised for the first time they had so much common ground. I remember David wrote about his friendship with George, aka Yog, when George died on his site. Both so talented and missed!

  15. I always find it interesting to look at David’s ‘top comments’ although this has now changed on his face book since David has died. I hope everyone who can get to the DC bands’ concert has a great night!

    • Of course – the ‘top comments’ on David’s face book page were so interesting, when DC was alive!!! Amazing comments!!

  16. Somebody on Twitter says there were a couple of instance of Partridge Family songs playing in the upcoming film Ant Man & The Wasp, which comes out July 6. If true, it wasn’t in the trailer.

    • Me neither but this person was at the press screening and saw it. She called it a “ needledrop track” which I’m not sure what that means. I’m guessing it was in the background and not prominent, which may be why it isn’t on the soundtrack.

  17. New subject mentioned briefly elsewhere….Thought it would be nice to have a scholarship fund of some kind at school(s) for performing arts, musical academies? in DC’s name.

Have always wanted to see Blood Brothers come out on DVD. Contacted someone just to make me feel like I did something to have someone consider it. Possibly donate portion of proceeds? Heck, you never know.

Found this interview on the website where David is discussing the play.

    http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TheatrePages/BloodBrothers.html

  18. Mary you got a great idea, when David came to mentor performing arts in 2007; he spoke in high regards about the arts, and was very outspoken what the arts meant, so I would say David Cassidy, loved theatre, and theatre was another part of his career, yes hope that can happen.

    • I was thinking a scholarship in music would be nice. Something to recognize his talent on the guitar. Acting also a good option for students.

Unaware of a mentor activity in 2007. Have to research. Thanks for info.

  19. Hi y’all! You know music in schools is less and less
now. It’s a shame. I think you have a great idea! Something ongoing in his name would be great! He was so talented.

  20. Mary thank you for the link, on David talking about Blood Brothers, I enjoyed David speaking about all the details of the play which he starred, I saw him in Blood Brothers when the play went on tour. The talent that David had, and how he was so perfected as a actor, when he was on stage. I never saw that interview, David at his best, and speaking so professional.

  21. David’s band not only worked with David professionally, they were a close group who showed how friendship s should be, they showed true care and will always be special people. This is wonderful of them to do this concert, let’s hope many more will follow, they all have true talent also. The cause, for the racehorses, I’m sure any donation would be a help, for the cause that David Cassidy believed and cared about. Those retired race horses need us, and David Cassidy would be grateful we followed, and carried this on for him. Thank you, to the band, for all you have did and continue to do.

  22. Catherine
Perhaps it has happened! They must be quite wary of avoiding crowd scenes for this. It’s not something you would want to do in full glow of public. It is a very private ritual of closure, much as many of us would like to be there as respect. There’s been a lot of hysteria in his life – perhaps he deserves some privacy albeit belatedly…..but it seems such a fitting resting place tho doesn’t it? Somewhere he felt at home and happy and free to be “normal”. I hope it is true.

As for timing, I imagine it takes time to get permission in such a public place and everyone is very different in the time to perform this last rite of respect and closure. The circumstances of David’s death were incredibly sad and tragic, and if its hard for us as fans to come to terms with it, I can only imagine how raw it must be for the family. People deal with grief and regret differently. Closure is a final letting go, it can be difficult to do that if feelings are still raw and in that inevitable cycle of denial and negotiation that we all go thru when grieving. It’s been such a tragically early loss for all.
I see it as a positive sign that the subject has, been broached, and I hope there will be a memorial celebration in due course. I am delighted that Maura has organised the memorial race -its fantastic! I wish I could be there! I think David would be very proud and moved by this achievement. Would be amazing if it could be an annual event.
Looking forward to meeting in August, hearing more about the Phoenix plaque, and Weronikas amazing research project. Love hearing all the stories, from everyone. Keep up the great works everyone. David’s memory is celebrated every day in so many wonderful ways! long may that continue!

    • Thanks Catherine
I began to think I’d imagined the whole conversation as the thread has disappeared. I hope it hasn’t offended anyone. That certainly wasn’t the intention.

  23. I would like to wish every one going to the tribute concert a lovely time ,I shall be thinking of you all

  24. I would also like to wish all going to the tribute concert a good time, celebrating David’s music.
There have been some lovely statements/articles from Teri Cote reminiscing of the bands time with David, they seemed like a very close knit bunch and it was obvious David had the utmost respect for them.
One of Teri’s comments mentioning fans becoming familiar on the front row at many concerts resonates with me and let me tell you, it was no easy task, almost a military operation, but David made it all worth the while by coming to the front and giving the fans handholds.
I remember the first time I was lucky enough to experience this, I almost melted.
Even when we didn’t quite manage front row seats, we somehow managed to get to the front anyway.
Being in the UK it was possible to travel around and get to as many concerts on the tour as we could. In 2004 I got to 6 concerts in 10 days and they were all fantastic and David was so energetic!
Some wonderful memories and still listening to his music every day and missing him posting on this website.
It will be a very emotive evening on the 14th for the fans and the band, I’m sure.

  25. Saratoga Springs N.Y. will be rocking tommorow, with a tribute to the one and only David Cassidy. What a special and caring band, David had, there love for David and David fans will be shown again and again. Thanks to the band, and all there hard work, to the fans attending have a great time, and what a special honor for David Cassidy.

  26. Hope everyone has a wonderful time tonight, wish so much that I could be there, will be thinking of all of you celebrating David

    • Thank you Barbara! It must have been very moving night. Great David’s photo.

  27. Thank you Barbara , for posting this ,looked like everyone had a good time ,love the picture of a young David, like I remember him as a twelve year old ,he had such a cute face

  28. Thank you to Craig, Teri, Dave, Darrell, Vance and Matt and I know some fans in the UK would have attended if we could have done so. Thank you to Barbara for the photos link. I thought of the concert while it was happening and sent you some warm vibes. Sian (England)

  29. Thank you Barbara, I enjoyed the pics, what a wonderful band and tribute to David Cassidy.

    • Hi to Denice and Felicia. Feel sure you’d have been there – in a heartbeat. Sian

  30. Hi Sian, I would have loved to have been there, I was in thought, wishing everyone a nice time, and the race in David’s honor, that would of been up my alley, all such nice tributes for David. I have my own horse, and he needs me, you could say I rescued him 23 years ago.I was a city girl, gone country, and had to just accept the responsibility, that also goes with the love for him. I wrote my own horse story in 4th grade and got a A +; so when I was old enough I would figure it out of owning my own. Sian I’m glad David Cassidy is getting nice tributes, we must all continue to protect his legacy, be so nice if his home town, in orange county New Jersey, would honor him, give a street in his honor, David Cassidy Blvd. Or the Arts, in his home town could do a honor, he was just a very special star, who will forever be in our hearts, and my friend Felicia has to go further in healing her foot, I don’t think she could get around Saratoga to quickly, Sian nice to hear from you, a big shout out to thank David Cassidy Band, for doing this show in David’s honor and for saving the lives of those racehorses, who David loved, we must carry out David’s wishes and let’s donate when we can, for this is a great cause, with great outcomes, let these retired race horses, have greener pastures.

  31. Hi Denice!
I love your post! You are so expressive and so
genuine. I agree with you it is getting harder to
post with David being gone. Oh my God do I
miss him! Hi Sian! I just wanted you to know
Denice and I are going to meet up in Saratoga
Springs in May of 2019. I am so looking forward
to this ! Denice and I have a special friendship.
I broke my foot 10 days ago, I get the cast off
in 3 weeks. Denice thank you for texting me
every day to check up on me to see how I am
doing. Once again I want all the fans to know
what a good friend you are!

    • Thank you. Still mystified as to how you’re coping with your kitten…Very pleased you’ve both got Saratoga fever, again. Hope the anticipation helps the healing! Sian

  32. Hi Sian, I don’t know if I would call it Saratoga fever, it’s more in words of love for David Cassidy, and I celebrated him when he was here with us in person, and now I will let him rest in peace, and celebrate his life and legacy with all the wonderful fans, and I have a great friend Felicia, and my friend Michael liked her, we just can’t believe how we felt in the moment and during our time there together. Like visiting with a best friend and being ourselves. And being supportive and giving David Cassidy a legacy. Sian maybe someday we can all meet. The fans that post are caring and enjoy talking about David Cassidy, but it’s difficult, and he is so missed. Hi Felicia, I’m glad we got to see some pics from the concert, and glad Danny Boy keeping your healing spirits going, he’s so cute, it’s unbelievable how cute he is. I wish all the fans a celebrated experience, for David during the race on the 18. And have fun, David would of wanted that.

  33. Hi Sian,
My kitty Danny Boy is easy to take care of.
I feed him twice a day, clean his litter box, and
I give him a lot of love. He is a great comfort to
me. I am 11 days into having my broken foot.
I have the ability to cope with it. Danny is my
    little angel. Take care Sian!
    Sincerely, your friend Felicia

  34. Hi Denice!
I love your post. This website is the friendliest
place on earth. You always have a good word
to say! Thank you for texting me every day to
find out how I am doing. I may have broke my
foot but the broken foot had not broken my
spirit. I get my cast off Septemer 10th. I look
forward every day to reading the post. I always
enjoy your text and I enjoy your post!

  35. Thank you Felicia, I really would of liked to be in Saratoga this week with you, my friend Michael and all the fans, but we’re not, and for all us fans I be waiting for pics, from the race in David’s honor. I miss all the other fans who would regularly post, David Cassidy is missed, and it helps to talk about how great a star he was with all his caring fans, to the girls getting together soon in UK, please keep us posted.

    • Denice and Felicia – I think you’d both forgive my poor choice of words (“Saratoga fever” – it sounded disrespectful but I promise it was envy…) if you’d seen me searching the skies this week for a shooting star to commemorate David. The clouds have made that extremely frustrating.

Felicia, if you can move around enough to clean at all
      you are doing brilliantly!!!

I wonder how many fans would find their way to Saratoga next May if time, money, and responsibilities were no object…?

  36. Dear Sian,
You are forgiven my dear! Denice and I are
passionate about making it back to Saratoga in
May. We had such a good time. I can’t describe
how fun it was to meet Denice. Denice and I had
the time of our life meeting with the other David
Cassidy fans. I encourage anybody to try to make
it to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. for David Cassidy Day
on May 20th, 2019. You have 9 months to plan
the trip. Some day I would love to meet you in
person Sian! Saratoga Springs can be a reality
for you, where there is a will there is a way.
Take care my friend! Sincerely, Felicia
    Hi Denice!

  37. Hi Sian, I would never be upset by a David Cassidy fan, and what they say, it sounded a little off on your part, and now you admitted envy, I’m still to sad, that David Cassidy left us, that was God’s calling. I met the man so many times, I admired his hard work ethics, he was a role model during difficult times, for me and so many, and now he is bringing us all together, to celebrate, Felicia and I just took a risk and got to Saratoga, we believed in David and what he meant, we needed to meet, like Felicia said maybe you can make it, we all have issues, but sometimes you gotta go with your heart, would it be to far for you? I told Felicia be nice if someday we can meet the fans in the UK, for now let’s just be happy we still have David’s website, I think we would miss oneanother, and all we have here. And Sian I’m missing Saratoga this week, I’m there in thought, wishing everyone a celebrated time to David Cassidy. Sian it was you who got me to play his music again, what you said made sense and I thank you for that.

    • Thank you to both of you. I’d need a magic carpet to get over to Saratoga, as things stand. Everyone’s circumstances are so unique, if you know what I mean. I can’t say I can do that, yet. Time will tell. I hope none of us run out of time, before then: Something of which David has reminded us (with those last words). Life can be strange. May is one of my favourite months!!! Take care, both of you, and all the other fans, too. Sian (healing hugs!)

  38. Hi Sian, yes a magic carpet would be the answer, what’s so unbelievable is back in the day, I knew David Cassidy had fans all over the world, and now through this website we got to know eachother, yes we all have circumstances, that are different, but the same, life is never perfect. Did you see the pics from the Memorial race, they were nice, I would of liked to been there, but couldn’t make it this time, I was there in thought. I could see why David loved Saratoga, horse racing, and the city just welcomes you, food is great, offers alot, Sian have a great day when you read the post, and glad we are true fans of David Cassidy.

    • Thank you, Denice. Yes, I saw the pics (just) behind the Log-in square but Facebook doesn’t yield up its treasures without a struggle!!! I would never have guessed about communicating, internationally, one day; with other DC fans… I just went on a coach – I think there were two coaches – organized by some schoolgirls’ mothers (as far as I could work out) to see David in 1973 and I just knew a girl at school who would sigh a lot!!! Take care! Sian

    • Yes, Denice. I wrote about it in Post No. 301 (David Cassidy Tributes) and in Post No. 66 (Updates on this website). Sian x

  39. 40. Hi Claudette, I am so happy for you and the others meeting for the first time and celebrating David Cassidy at Syon Park, that place is beautiful, and David in the video, I can watch over and over. Do you all, have a picture posted anywhere? When I met Felicia, I was at peace, it felt like we knew eachother somewhere in early clock, to say, that’s a great feeling, to establish friendships and looking back at our youth to now. Who would ever think being a David Cassidy fan, would bring us all together, David Cassidy had a outpour of love he shared with the world, I’m really happy to all had a great meet up, and David Cassidy was celebrated.

  41. Hi Denice!
I like your post! I get my cast off in 9 days!
Hurray! I get to get back to normal living!

on this website, I want to wish you a very happy
    Labor Day weekend!

  42. I always cry when I come here …a year later and I still get so emotional
So many memories David gave me as a child …I honestly sob when I hear him singing on the radio God Bless you always David and your dear family
