Concert Reviews
Rams Head On Stage. Annapolis MD
January 29, 2016
It’s been almost four months since the world has had the pleasure of seeing David Cassidy live in concert and on January 29th we all waited with bated breath for the return of our favourite superstar at the Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis.
“How do you do, God bless you for all for being here, this is so fantastic!” he said as he strode on stage to the well-known beat of ‘C’mon Get Happy’. “Remember this time in your life when there was nothing but fun, happiness…” continued David as he sang the words to the Partridge Family anthem.
Cheers, shrieks and all manner of joyful noise accompanied David from the enthusiastic audience in Maryland this evening. At times the hysteria was so overwhelming that Mr Cassidy had trouble maintaining his trend of thought but that didn’t stop him from pumping us full of adrenaline with one memorable hit after another.
He looked fit and healthy and spoke eloquently when the fans allowed him the opportunity to do so between screams. A couple of security people had to keep parading up and down the stage area to keep the crowd under control.
Graceful ballads like ‘I’ll Meet You Halfway’ interspersed with hard hitting rock tunes like ‘Hush’ and ‘Wild Nights’ displayed David’s versatility as he effortlessly took us on a journey through his musical life. The Cole Porter tune ‘Night And Day’ that David learned as a three year old from his father garnered heavy applause from the fans when David mentioned that it was going to be one of the songs on his upcoming cd.
David’s lower register is more powerful than ever and I could feel the floor rattling as he rocked the bluesy ‘Sweet Little Angel’ and ‘Feeling Alright’. An off the cuff ‘Rock Me Baby’ had potential but fizzled as everyone struggled to remember the words and chords. David told us that he hadn’t done the song in many years to which Dave Robicheau humorously replied ‘And I’ve NEVER played that song’. It was a very funny moment.
The stage was a lot smaller than I expected and at times I was concerned that David might trip over some of the cords on the floor. No doubt it hampered his usually energetic movements but he took it all in stride. A fan next to me was seeing David for the first time since 1972 and came to the show with a large photo collage which he took up on stage and generously autographed for her. No doubt she will be attending a lot more concerts in the future.
On stage for over 90 minutes David sang, joked, talked about music and left us all wanting more. The band was hot literally and figuratively as they accompanied David smoothly through all the twists and turns of his one of kind performance.
I battled over 12 hours of traffic, snow, and laryngitis to be here to tonight. As always, David did us proud.
