POP singer David Cassidy went to audition for Phantom Of The Opera .... and discovered he had lost his voice.
A spokesman for the musical's management said: "It was embarrassing. Poor David had laryngitis so we had to ask him to come back another time."
Former teen idol Cassidy is one of half a dozen hopefuls aiming to take over when Michael Crawford leaves the West End blockbuster in September.
Crawford, OBE, is set to open in the Broadway production of the same show in November.
