From The Partridge Family to heartthrob to performing on Broadway and in Vegas, David Cassidy has done it all. And after almost 40 years of entertaining, the whole world still hears the songs David Cassidy is singing, so c'mon get happy.

24 hours: You've been around a long time and done countless interviews. What question do you get asked most often?

DC: I get asked many questions regarding resiliency after being labeled with sex symbol, idol, heartthrob and all the rest of that. Ultimately, it's about the work for me. I love the work ... not the success and the fame - I mean that's all great - but a lot of it I had to create the opportunities.

24: Whether it's been performing, producing or writing - you've done it all. Is it possible to pick a favourite?

DC: I'm doing what I love to do probably the most in my life, which is connecting with audiences all over the world, which I've done since the beginning of the '70s, and going back and taking great, great songs that were big hits for me all over the world and singing it now and playing it now . . . But mostly it's about how much it means to me and how much it means to them. And there's a great passion in that for me.

24: What was it like working in London's West End with Sir Laurence Olivier?

DC: He was a gracious, extremely kind man and his talent, I think, spoke for itself over his career. But being 80 years old, he was certainly not able to do what he did when he was in his 20s, 30s, 40s, but just to have met him and see him as a human being was a wonderful thing.

24: Do you ever miss getting chased down alleys by packs of screaming teenagers?

DC: Now I get chased down alleys by 40-year-olds.
