An inspiring day of art, entertainment and more is in store for those who attend the 4th annual Arts in Bloom Festival, presented by Centex Homes.
The event takes place on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14, on the Victorian Square Plaza in Sparks. Event hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The popular spring event, hosted by Sparks Parks and Recreation and Sparks Arts and Culture, will feature a variety of works from approximately 50 of the region's top artists.
The diverse range of mediums include watercolors, metal sculpture, ceramics, glass, oils, pen and ink, photography, jewelry, block printing, woodworking and textiles.
This year's event will benefit the Northern Nevada Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. A portion of artists' sales will be directed to the foundation, and the organization will receive all proceeds from a live auction held at 1 p.m. that day hosted by KTVN Channel 2 anchor Wendy Damonte. The auction will highlight signed original celebrity-painted plates from athletes and entertainers such as: Olympic gold medal winner Kristi Yamaguchi; actor Debbie Reynolds; singers Marie Osmond, Keb' Mo' and David Cassidy; "Trading Spaces" hostess Genevieve Gorder; KTVN Channel 2 anchors Wendy Damonte and Kristen Walthers; Reno Gazette-Journal columnist Siobhan McAndrew; and Nevada's first lady, Dema Guinn.
