David Cassidy – Talent Survives

Article by Linda Higgins

I recently came across some reruns of The Partridge Family, which I excitedly sat down and watched for awhile. Since then, I haven’t been able to get David Cassidy off my mind. I’ve loved him since he made my heart throb in the 70s, but once he moved on from The Partridge Family my awareness of him totally diminished…until now. All of the sudden he has come back into my consciousness in a big way.

As a result, I immersed myself into his music again, listening to those old songs I love and getting to know the new ones I had missed. When I did, a wave of happiness came over me. Which made me realize that even though life might take us in a different direction for awhile, we are always led back to the music and the artists who make us happy.

Message for fans.

David and I spoke today and he’s looking forward to playing in California this weekend. David loves performing live but this, unfortunately, may be the last time in CA as travelling with an arthritic back is becoming very difficult for David.

David wanted me to tell you that he is really looking forward to recording with Craig and the rest of the band. One of the songs to be recorded, as you may know, is “Night and Day”. David recounted riding in the car with his dad when he was about 3 years old and Jack was teaching him to sing “Night and Day”. Many of the other songs to be recorded also have a special meaning for David. The recording will be done live in a sound booth with musicians, the good old fashioned way!

David will be on Good Day LA on Friday. He and Craig will be performing Night and Day. If you miss this show you should be able to view it online.

David wanted to let you all know that he is looking forward to his 65th birthday so that he can say to people: “I actually made it!”

To my fans

I’m writing to let you know what’s new in my life.

I am going through bankruptcy proceedings at the moment. I wanted to let you know personally. This is necessary for practical reasons to reorganize my life as I go through divorce and to restructure my finances.

Teri Coté has decided to move onto other artistic work and will no longer be playing with me. Teri is a very fine artist. She is an extremely talented musician, a tremendous drummer! All of us in the band love her and have enjoyed working with her. I wish her every success in her future endeavors.

Craig J and I will begin recording new material in April. We will be recording a few songs that I love and that he loves. One song will be Night & Day, a Cole Porter song.

Finally, I wanted to say that I love Beau and miss him as he now lives on the other side of the country. I am very proud of him as a person. Beau is a tremendous human being, a very caring person. I’m not just being a biased parent, many people tell me that.

Happy Trails,

DC

A message from David

When David was told of the campaign, organised by a number of fans from around the world, to have him inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he said:

Thank you, I appreciate your love and support for me.

They’ll NEVER let me into the R&R Hall of Fame. I’m too pop. So many TRULY GREAT pop artists will never be in. I’ve never cared about awards. It’s more gratifying to me that my fans love what I do.

On another note, my band and I have had an amazing time being daring and doing unusual materials that we’ve not ever done before. I think I’m going to continue to push the envelope a little more in my next few shows. We shall see.
