This was due to several encounters in my youth with overzealous born-again Christians. [he most traumatic was a young Vacation Bible
School (VBS) teacher who locked each of us in a room and would not let us out until we accepted Jesus. While locked in, he told us how
we had to give up all of our false idols—-singers, Hollywood stars we liked, candy, sports, television, music, etc., or else we would go straight to hell.
It's hard for an 1I-year-old to hear that having a David Cassidy poster on her wall is going to condemn her to life in hell. I wasn’t worshiping him; I just thought he looked kind of cute and I enjoyed his songs.
