The visit to Lord Montagu’s Beaulieu Estate of American pop idol David Cassidy, who shot to fame after appearing in the musical sitcom, The Partridge Family in the early 1970s, was very hush hush because they feared he would be mobbed.
Now Beaulieu Estate has unveiled a riverside information board commemorating the secret visit the American pin up pop star made to the area 50 years ago. Cassidy who had been on a UK tour in 1973 sought escape from his screaming fans and Lord Montagu’s country pile was the ideal refuge.
The singer/actor, who died in 2017 was the guest of Lord and Lady Montagu and had fond memories of his stay at the stately home in the New Forest, surrounded by the English countryside, woodland and ponies.
David Cassidy was an actor, singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was best known for his role as Keith Partridge, the son of Shirley Partridge in the 1970s musical sitcom The Partridge Family. This role catapulted Cassidy to teen idol status as a superstar pop singer.
