During the "Shindig" period O'Neill got to know the then unknown teen idol David Cassidy who eventually asked him to be his manager. By that time, O'Neill had dropped out of radio and headed the rock music division in a personal management company.
"I turned down David Cassidy," he laughed. "And I don't admit that very often."
