LAS VEGAS - David Cassidy has a reason to get happy - he's signed a multi-year contract to perform at one of the city's resorts.
Cassidy and the Rio Suite Hotel & Casino announced Wednesday that the former teen idol will produce a new show at the resort, opening in January.
"I will do a hybrid Broadway musical," Cassidy said. "It will have a story and it will appeal to a large demographic audience.
Cassidy began his career as a sibling in the '70s television series "The Partridge Family." He moved to Las Vegas three years ago to headline the $75 million "EFX: stage spectacular at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, leaving the show in December.
Cassidy said his new show will be a "very high energy" production.
"It will give me an opportunity to play a character much like myself," he said. "I will not be playing David Cassidy. I will be playing a character with a lot of similarities."
