David Cassidy draws fans from near and far

At home in Las Vegas, singer David Cassidy is just a regular guy.
"I do the PTA and go to my son's basketball and baseball games," said Cassidy Sunday night. His son is 10 and his daughter is 14.
The city his family adopted 41/2 years ago is one of the few where celebrities live like perfectly ordinary citizens, Cassidy said.
He came to Shreveport to help celebrate the grand opening of Harrah's Convention & Events Center in the new hotel. Cassidy graciously shook hands with fans, posed for pictures and bantered with invited guests after Friday and Saturday shows.
Cassidy starred with actress-singer Shirley Jones in 1970 in The Partridge Family, a television show that propelled him to teen idol stardom. By age 21, he was the world's highest paid solo live performer and his fan club the most popular in the world -- exceeding those of the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
He hit seven chart-topping singles, including I Think I Love You.
The fans remain loyal. They came from as far away as Mobile, Ala.
One who managed to obtain a guitar pick left the ballroom in tears.
Karen Waldman drove from Dallas just for the evening. "I've been a fan since 1971."
Miranda McCuller of Longview, Texas, received an unexpected invitation to the party that very evening, so wasn't prepared with autograph material. He signed the front of her white shirt.
SWEPCO execs Johnie Wise and Mike Madison shot pictures for people who unselfishly swapped cameras. Terri Madison, Maureen Gamble and Patti Wise squealed like groupies as Wise captured them with the star.
This was Cassidy's second trip to Shreveport. "I was here 26 or 27 years ago, but don't remember where I performed," Cassidy said.
Between shows, he took advantage of Harrah's Rose Spa/Fitness Center.
When he is not performing, Cassidy raises horses.
