LAS VEGAS--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1998--After a phenomenally successful two-year run -- during which he was named Las Vegas' best singer as well as the city's best all-around entertainer -- David Cassidy Wednesday announced that he will leave the "EFX" show at MGM Grand.
Cassidy will continue to perform in "EFX," the hotel/casino's $45 million stage production, through the end of the year. A new lead performer will take the reigns in January 1999.
In November 1996, Cassidy moved to Las Vegas and took over the show's lead role. He helped rewrite the show's script, contributed several rousing new numbers to the musical score, and brought the show a quality that Chicago Tribune staff writer Gary Dretzka described as "a palpable sense of exuberance." Cassidy also became a visible member of the Las Vegas community, contributing his time and talents to a number of local charities and events.
He and his family intend to remain residents of Las Vegas.
"With his wit, warmth and infectious enthusiasm, David has helped make `EFX' the city's premier production," noted Richard Sturm, senior vice president of MGM Grand Worldwide Entertainment. "We're grateful for his contributions to the show as well as to our community, and we wish him every success in the future."
"From day one, MGM Grand believed in me and my vision for this show," said Cassidy. "They allowed me to help make `EFX' the best it could be, and together we created the biggest and best production show on the planet. It's been a wild ride -- and a genuine pleasure."
Four months after Cassidy's arrival in "EFX," it was named the city's best production show by readers and critics alike in the Las Vegas Review-Journal's annual Best of Las Vegas poll.
Cassidy leaves "EFX" to pursue other projects, including promotion of his new solo album "Old Trick, New Dog," as well as concerts and television projects. MGM Grand will announce a replacement for Cassidy in the near future.
