Entertainer David Cassidy and his wife, Sue, co-wrote a song eight years ago that raised $2 million in five days to help rebuild a section of Los Angeles ravaged by rioting.
The Las Vegas couple have another song they hope will raise even more money for victims of war-ravaged Kosovo.
"The track is being recorded as we speak," Sue Cassidy said Thursday.
All proceeds will go to War Child, an international organization that provides aid to young victims of the wars in Bosnia and Croatia, neighbors to Kosovo.
Cassidy said this recording project is different from any other ever attempted.
In addition to a host of celebrities who have agreed to participate in singing "Message to the World," the record will include voices of an estimated 20,000 U.S. citizens from New York to Los Angeles.
Cassidy said her husband recorded "Message to the World" several years ago. They decided to use it for the charitable cause when the problems in Kosovo worsened.
A state-of-the-art mobile studio will leave Central Park in New York on May 14 after recording voices of people there, then make a trek across the country to Las Vegas, arriving on May 20, in time for the second annual Emerging Artists & Talent in Music (EAT'EM) to be held at the Mirage hotel-casino May 19-22.
The itinerary is not yet complete, but Cassidy said there will be publicity along the bus route notifying people about where they can come to add their voices to the soundtrack.
A version of the song is being made available on the EAT'EM website, www.eat-m.com. For more details, call 837-3636 in Las Vegas.
At the EAT'M conference, founded by Cassidy and Lisa Tenner, a live recording will be made using the track recorded on the bus route.
After the conference the bus will continue to Los Angeles, collecting more public voices and voices of celebrities.
"Once that it is done, it will be given back to producer Narada Michael Walden and he will put everything on the master track," Sue Cassidy said. "We will make it instantly available to 100 million people over the Internet."
Celebrities who have said they will help with the project include Alice Cooper, Wyclef Jean, Downtown Julie Brown, Daniel Baldwin, Duncan Sheik, Sam Moore and Keanu Reeves' Dogstar band.
