Pop Classics Given Dance Groove in Release for Target's Spotlight Music Series
Emoto composer, producer and remixer Craig J was recently tapped by 180 Music to produce a new remix album for pop icon David Cassidy. Part of Target's Spotlight Music Series, David Cassidy: Part II The Remix includes inspired, cutting edge club versions of I Think I Love You, Come On Get Happy and I Can Feel Your Heartbeat and other classics.
Craig J, who has created a string of Top Ten remixes of songs by such artists as Madonna, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson and Rod Stewart, has mastered the art of giving classic material a hip, contemporary sound. For the David Cassidy album, the singer recorded new vocal tracks for 12 of his 1970s hits in the original keys and tempos. Craig J then worked his magic, creating unique arrangements that give each track a refreshingly new dance beat. Cherish, for example, is utterly transformed with a slick groove, while I'll Meet You in the Hallway is turned into an upbeat, Gospel-flavored anthem.
The remixes have sparked renewed interest in Cassidy among long time fans while introducing his music to a new generation of music lovers. The remixes have also won the approval of perhaps their most exacting critic, Cassidy himself. 'These tracks obviously are very close to David's heart and I wanted to be sure he liked this new approach,' said Craig J. 'My goal was to give the songs a contemporary beat while preserving the passion that made them hits in the first place.'
Cassidy achieved international fame through his role as Keith Partridge on the television series The Partridge Family and strung together a series of Top Ten hits with the group and as a solo artist. In the early '70s he had the largest fan club in the history of pop music. More recently, he has built a successful career as an actor in film, television and Broadway. He's also starred in the popular Las Vegas stage show EFX.
Craig J has produced 17 remixes that have reached #1 on Billboard's dance charts, including Mariah Carey's Don't Forget About Us, Kelly Clarkson's Walk Away, Beyonce's Irreplaceable and The Pussy Cat Doll's Don't Cha. Additionally, he has had broad success in licensing and as a composer of music for film, television and advertising. He is also co-founder of the underground label Uncommon Trax, which has released music by such artists as Big Bang Theory, D. Ramirez and Mantronik, and placed songs in films and television shows such as Entourage, The L Word, Epic Movie and Save the Last 2.
