A former teen idol is set to take the stage in just a week for the Chisholm Trail Expo Center's Christmas act.
David Cassidy, a singer and actor who rose to fame in the 1970s, will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at Chisholm Trail Expo Center, 111 W. Purdue.
"He's an unbelievable entertainer," said Steve Barnes, general manager of the Expo Center. "He can connect to all audiences of any age."
On sale now, tickets range from $30 to $50. Call 237-0238. Order forms for the canceled Smothers Brothers concert will be honored.
Cassidy is most famous for his role in "The Partridge Family," and became an internationally known star by the time he was 21. His chart-topping tunes, "I Think I Love You," "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" and "I Woke Up This Morning," still resonate with fans.
Partridge is known not only for his television appearances and musical performances, but also in Broadway shows, Las Vegas performances and numerous concerts.
Cassidy earned an Emmy nomination for his role in the made-for-TV film "A Chance To Live." He has starred in several Broadway productions, including "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Time," and alongside brother, Shaun, in "Blood Brothers."
Cassidy repeatedly was named Best All-Around Performer for his work in the MGM Grand's extravaganza "EFX" in the late 1990s. He also co-wrote other Vegas shows such as "The Rat Pack Is Back!" and "At the Copa."
Barnes is banking on Cassidy's popularity to draw in the crowds this Christmas.
"It's going to be a great show," Barnes said. "I'm excited to have a younger performer bringing a different level of entertainment."
Barnes said he had been working since July of 2006 to get the Smothers Brothers in concert and announced last December they were coming. Then things fell apart last summer. As he desperately searched for a replacement, he recalled seeing one of David Cassidy's Vegas shows.
Past performers for the annual holiday show have included Pat Boone, Glen Campbell and Mel Tillis.
