SEVENTIES heart-throb David Cassidy is set to be the next star signed up for The Gazette's Presents of Mind Appeal.

The 57-year-old actor and singer is touring the UK in March and April and will be appearing at Silverdell's bookshop and ice cream parlour in Kirkham.

One of our Presents of Mind present collection points, Silverdell's has proposed to give £1 for the sale of each copy of Cassidy's new book 'Can It Be Forever' to Brian House children's hospice.

The idea was inspired by England cricketing hero Andrew Flintoff.

Owner Elaine Silverwood said: "When Andrew Flintoff came in for a book signing during his benefit year, Andrew's choice of charity was Derian House hospice in Preston. "Andrew requested that money from each sale went to Derian House and we managed to get a bank to match the donation.

"David Cassidy is coming to the store in March or April and we want to do the same, donating £1 to Brian House for each sale of his new book.

"It would be great if the bank could match that too."

The Gazette's campaign wants unwanted gifts to be donated to raise cash for children at Brian House. And well-wishers have already flooded the Poulton Street shop with goodies for the appeal.

Elaine said: "We've had lamps, scarves, gloves, hats, even a backgammon set. "It's like the Generation Game in here. We've even had lava lamps and ornamental pieces."

"Between the Gazette and Brian House we've done really well and it's a really good money raiser. "People get lots of unwanted Christmas presents and most end up stuffed in a box or a cupboard. I would urge people to keep them coming."

Jane Molyneux, community fundraiser at Brian House, said: "I think the fact that businesses like Silverdell's are clubbing together is wonderful."
