Half Heaven scores in Kentucky Half Heaven captured the Wintergreen Stakes last weekend at Turfway Park, becoming the eighth New York-bred to win an open stakes race in 2007. The 5-year-old Half Heaven, bred by David Cassidy, sent her career earnings to $318,461, based on a record of 7-7-1 from 22 starts. The Wintergreen was her third stakes victory; she won the River Memories at Woodbine and the My Charmer at Turfway last fall. Half Heaven is a daughter of Regal Classic, long one of the leading New York sires, and is one of 50 stakes winners by the son of Vice Regent. Regal Classic stands at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbred Farm and his fee this year is $10,000. Half Heaven is out of the Desert Wine mare Sand Pirate, who has also produced Doll Baby, winner of the Niagara Stakes last year. Sand Pirate is a half-sister to Sharp Looking Lady, the dam of millionaire Continental Red, winner of the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Handicap. Half Heaven is owned by Stronach Stables, which purchased her for $160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November selected mixed sale in 2006.
