Artist Of The Week

In January 1972, The Partridge Family released their fourth studio album, Shopping Bag. It would be their last Top 20 album. Also around this time, David Cassidy launched a solo singing career, hitting the Top 5 with his song "Cherish" and releasing his first solo album. To support the album, he went out on tour with his own group of musicians, performing Partridge Family songs as well as hits from his own album.

In late 1972, after the release of a Greatest Hits set, the group released The Partridge Family Notebook. The album spawned a Top 40 hit with "Looking Through The Eyes Of Love," but the album failed to make the Top 40. The beginning of the end of The Partridge Family was looming. Their next two albums, Crossword Puzzle and Bulletin Board, both from 1973, did not even produce a charting single. By this time, Cassidy had grown tired of playing Keith Partridge and wanted to distance himself from the show and concentrate on his solo career. Due to Cassidy's looming departure and a decline in the ratings, ABC moved the show from its 8:30 Friday night slot to Saturday at 8:00, directly opposite the hit All In The Family. After 96 episodes and ten Partridge Family albums (seven studio albums, one Christmas album, and two Greatest Hits albums), the show was cancelled.

Taken from their 1972 album, Shopping Bag, Friday's essential Partridge Family song is:
