Artist Of The Week
In February 1971, The Partridge Family released their second album, Up To Date. It was a bigger hit than their debut album, going Top 5 and becoming the group's top-selling album in its catalogue. It also spawned the group's second #1 single--"Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted"-- and a #2 single--"I'll Meet You Halfway."
Originally, "Warm My Soul" was to be the first single from the album released, but Wes Farrell opted for "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted" instead. Wes Farrell believed that a single featuring David's spoken voice would increase sales. David Cassidy adamantly refused to do the narrative in the song's bridge, going on record to say that the song was like "fingers down a blackboard to me" because he despised the spoken part in the middle of the song so much. In fact, so strong was his dislike for the song, he threatened to quit the series over it. David was persuaded by Farrell to do the part, and the single ultimately sold over 3 million copies. However, David still refuses to perform this song in concert as of today.
