Another week has passed, giving The Scene the chance to take in some cool summer events.
On Friday, the Molson Give-R at The Argyle Bar & Grill was the place to be. The rooftop patio was the perfect way to kick off the weekend and enjoy a hot summer night in Halifax. This month, the Parker Street Furniture and Food Bank benefited from the money raised.
From the Give-R, it was over to Casino Nova Scotia to see David Cassidy. Picture a room full of women reliving the heyday of when David Cassidy was a teen heartthrob and Partridge Family member. He wore a tartan that Karen Williams and Susan Hartig presented to him before the show.
He opened with Hush, originally by Deep Purple, then did some Partridge Family songs and Beatles classics. He also told the story of New Year's 1974, when John Lennon showed up at his house and they played Beatles songs together. He whipped out a few guitar picks and threw them into the audience - one nearly took out my eye. Yes, I nearly got taken out by a Partridge and it wasn't Danny Bonaduce. That night, it was good to be David Cassidy.
On Saturday, The Scene took in Nuts 4 Ribs at DeWolf Park, a fundraiser for testicular cancer and men's health. Rib lovers united and enjoyed some of the best ribs The Scene has ever tasted. There was lots of entertainment, including a band that fit the event perfectly, The BBQ Kings.
The events continued at Weir Baseball Field in Upper Sackville for the Weir Rockin' '08. Lots of people showed up to see Chilliwack. The flashbacks continued with Haywire and Jon Mullane, formerly Jonathan M, on the same bill. Congrats to organizers and volunteers for pulling off a great event.
Next week Jamie Paterson is back from vacation, hopefully, rested and ready to go. It's been a fun couple of weeks filling in for him and enjoying summer full-on in Halifax. Enjoy what's left of it. See ya.
