Many people know David Cassidy as the teen heartthrob from the 1970s sitcom, The Partridge Family, a musician, or a thoroughbred owner and breeder. What they may not know is that members of his immediate family struggled with alcohol addiction.
At 7 p.m. on Monday, The Prevention Council will host Cassidy, his wife Sue, and son Beau at its Second Annual Dare to Dream Gala in the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Spa State Park. Cassidy is expected to speak about his experiences as the child of an alcoholic, said Robin Ambrosino, information specialist at Saratoga Partnership for Prevention.
Also, Trey Anastasio, formerly of Phish, and New York Racing Association Chief Charlie Hayward will be there.
"I am thrilled we have the opportunity to host David and his family," Prevention Council Executive Director Judy Ekman said. "David's experience puts him in the unique position of being able to speak personally about the tragic effect of alcoholism in his family and his commitment to children's causes - two subjects close to the heart of our agency."
Tickets are $75 per person, $600 for tables of eight.
All proceeds support The Prevention Council, Saratoga County's only licensed prevention provider. Entertainment will be by The Sarah Pedinotti Band. For more, call 581-1230, or visit http://preventioncouncil.org/gala/gala.asp.
