Seventies pop icon David Cassidy, First Nation songstress Buffy Sainte Marie, Juno-nominated Serena Ryder and rock group 54-40 will perform in Peterborough this summer at the Festival of Lights, a press release states.
Cassidy - who starred in "The Partridge Family" and made girls swoon with his hit single "I Think I Love You" - is confirmed to be the opening act on June 20.
The free outdoor summer concert series runs Wednesday and Saturday evenings until Aug. 22 at Del Crary Park.
"We're excited because as always, there's something for everyone," said festival general manager Kathy Kirkland. "With David Cassidy, there are people from Las Vegas and the U.K. who have already called to say they're coming here just to see him. It's incredible to see how far this event travels and that people are booking their holidays around this festival. It makes us so proud as a city."
The rest of the musicians slated to perform this year haven't been confirmed yet and should be announced by mid-March, Kirkland said.
Tough economic times mean the festival is looking for more community support, Kirkland said.
She said she hopes to raise at least $10,000 during a March 20 fundraising concert starring Jim Witter in "The Piano Men" (a tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel) at the Trentwinds International Centre on Lansdowne Street.
Tickets cost $20 each or $25 at the door.
Tickets can be purchased by cash or cheque at city hall, the festival office at the entrance to Jackson Park on Parkhill Road, and CHEX Television on Monaghan Road, or through Paypal online at www.festivaloflights.ca
Prizes are to be raffled off, including Bruce Springsteen tickets as well as a central air conditioner.
