How much is an exclamation point worth!
We may find out if Tony Sacca follows through on his threat to sue pal David Saxe for allegedly stealing the title of a show.
About five years ago Sacca (an entertainer/producer/syndicated TV show host/co-owner of a nigh club on Fremont Street) created a musical revue he calls "Vegas the Show."
Last month Saxe (who has produced dozens if not hundreds of shows since he was 15 years old) announced he is creating a musical revue he calls "Vegas! The Show."
He says it will open in mid-June in the Saxe Theater at Miracle Mile at Planet Hollywood (the theater formerly owned by Steve Wyrick, but that's another lawsuit that may be waiting to happen).
Both shows span the history of Vegas entertainment.
Sacca says he debuted his show at the MGM's Hollywood showroom in 2005 and then did the show again at the Starbright Theatre in Summerlin in 2007, and again in 2008 showroom at the Plaza .
It hasn't been performed since, however, he has decided to make it a centerpiece of his entertainment lineup at Las Vegas Rocks Café, the nightclub/restaurant he and his girlfriend Josette LeBlond on the corner of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard.
He mentioned it to me when I bumped into him recently at the 31st annual San Gennaro Feast at the Silverton, where he was performing.
Will he sue over the title issue?
"Of course," he said.
But it wasn't an iron-clad "of course."
When will his show open?
He was a little vague, but I got the idea there's a race on to see which production opens first.
In a recent press release he said it will open as an afternoon program sometime this summer at Vegas Rocks.
He calls "Vegas The Show" "A story In song - a music, comedy and multimedia journey through the history of Las Vegas. It starts from the 1930s, progresses to the present day, and includes a look into the future of Las Vegas in the year 2050."
Sacca is one of a cast of five.
It could be that Vegas will be blessed with two similar revues ' "Vegas the Show" and "Vegas! The Show."
That of course is not a precedent.
You may recall the long-running "The Rat Pack is Back Show," which Sandy Hackett and Dick Feeney produced first at the Greek Isles and then at the Plaza.
Entertainer David Cassidy claimed Hackett stole the show from him, but that's another story.
A couple of years ago Feeney and Hackett had a falling out and the fall turned ugly.
Last year Hackett was ousted from the show and opened his own production at the Sahara, which he calls "Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack Show."
Last I heard there was litigating going on.
Meanwhile we have competing versions of the show.
And it looks like we may have the same situation with Sacca and Saxe's revues.
