FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- A hearing for former teen idol and '70s heartthrob David Cassidy stemming from his November arrest on a DUI charge has been postponed.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they stopped Cassidy after seeing his Mercedes swerve on Florida's Turnpike just after 6 p.m. Nov. 3.
Troopers said Cassidy drove his car onto a shoulder rumble strip and then traveled between the outside lane and the mile marker 152 exit ramp near Fort Pierce. Troopers said Cassidy drove past the exit ramp, drove onto the shoulder again and then crossed the center line. Troopers said Cassidy then tried to get onto a southbound entrance ramp and cut another car off.
After Cassidy was stopped, troopers said they smelled alcohol when he was talking to them. He told deputies that he had a glass of wine at lunch and a hydrocodone tablet in the afternoon.
When he got out of his car, troopers said Cassidy was unsteady on his feet and failed several field sobriety tests. Troopers said he later registered a 0.14 on a breath test.
Troopers then searched his car and said they found a bottle of bourbon that was half-empty in the back, according to an arrest report.
Cassidy, 60, is a Fort Lauderdale resident.
