If "I Think I Love You" and "Get Happy" bring you back to, well, a happy place and time, then you don't want to miss the Boomers & Seniors Expo at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston Oct. 29-30, where former teen idol David Cassidy will headline a performance at 8 p.m. on Oct. 29.
AAA Southern New England is one of the primary sponsors of the weekend event, which will include a variety of exhibitors presenting information on travel, financial planning, hobbies, health and wellness, housing, home-care assistance, home and garden, entertainment and much more.
There will be fashion shows and food and wine tastings. On Oct. 30, The April Hall Group – featuring members of the Boston Pops – will perform.
"There's really something for everybody here, from financial and retirement advice to travel options and it's loaded with great entertainment, I mean, David Cassidy!" said Mary Maguire, director of public and legislative affairs for AAA Southern New England.
Senior mobility is a "major issue and initiative" for AAA, and clubs across the country are hosting and sponsoring similar events, she said.
"With people living and driving longer, we're committed to sharpening driving skills for everyone as they age and making sure seniors are driving safer longer," Maguire said. "AAA Southern New England will offer great tools for doing just that at the Expo – everything from CarFit to Drive Sharp to the Older Wiser Driver programs."
Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs, said AAA's national board is "funding several initiatives that support our senior strategy, including the development of a `best-in-class' website dealing with senior mobility issues, as well as senior expos across the country that serve to enhance our outreach to the particular demographic."
He added: "The approach being taken on seniors is similar to the teen initiatives undertaken over the past two years – efforts that have produced favorable results in the area of our web presence and the proliferation of AAA driving schools."
AAA will offer safety demonstrations, seminars, travel deals and savings options. John Paul, AAA's Car Doctor, will broadcast his weekly radio show live from the Expo and be on hand to answer attendees' car-related questions.
AAA members save $2 on a one-day pass or $5 on a weekend pass. Tickets to Cassidy's performance range from $25 to $125, and include free admission to the Expo. For more information, visit www.boomersandseniorsexpo.com or call (802) 872-9000.
