BACKSTAGE: David Cassidy plans meet-and-greet in Oceanside

David Cassidy, the '70s teen idol and "Partridge Family" star, is still going strong at age 62, with a concert scheduled for Aug. 25 at Sycuan Casino in El Cajon.
But North County fans will get a chance to meet the singer this weekend in Oceanside, thanks to Cassidy's longstanding friendship with Sam Hyman, owner of the Rim Talay Thai Restaurant at 508 Mission Ave. Cassidy and Hyman have been friends for 50 years, and the get-together on Sunday will celebrate that milestone, as well as the 40th anniversary of Cassidy's first concert tour.
Hyman is hosting two meet-and-greet meal sessions on Aug. 26 at the restaurant. Fans can share lunch (at 1 p.m.) or dinner (at 6 p.m.) with Cassidy and Hyman. Cost is $25 and includes a set meal. Reserve to 760-435-2007.
