David Cassidy of The Partridge Family fame will perform at this year's summer festival in Des Plaines, which has been scaled back to three days, organizers announced.
The actor and singer will hit the stage July 14 for the second annual Des Plaines Summer Fling. Cassidy may do a tribute to his friend, Davy Jones, of The Monkees, who passed away Feb. 29, said Hank Zemola, CEO of Special Events Management, which is putting on the event.
Other featured performers include the classic pop rock group Ides of March featuring Jim Peterik, pop rock tribute band Infinity and the dance group Libido Funk Circus. Zemola in a statement said the Chicago-based organization is excited about putting on the event, which will be more "consumer-friendly."
"One change will be moving the location of the music stage and expanding the seating area around the stage so more visitors can enjoy the entertainment," he said. "Another thing we're planning is to provide a larger variety of food at the event, including participation from local restaurants."
Last year, the event was held over four days and was partially obstructed by storms and flooding, which also caused the Des Plaines Park District to cancel its annual 5K race.
The summer festival will run July 13-15, and feature food, kids' activities, carnival rides and a craft fair on Pearson Street, according to the organizer's website.
