LAKESIDE — David Cassidy, 1970s star of "The Partridge Family," will perform hits from his time as a teen idol at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in Hoover Auditorium, 115 Third St.
From television to record-breaking concert tours, Cassidy has remained in the spotlight for more than four decades. Rising to fame on the TV show "The Partridge Family," Cassidy became the biggest TV and recording marvel of his time.
Born into a family of actors helped to jump-start Cassidy's career. His mother was Evelyn Ward and his father was Jack Cassidy. However, once his father was remarried to Shirley Jones, Cassidy's fame was set into motion. Cassidy moved to Beverly Hills with his father to reside with Jones and Cassidy's new half-brothers, Shaun, Patrick and Ryan. It was here that Cassidy began to seek out fame.
In 1970, he took the part of teen heartthrob Keith Partridge on "The Partridge Family," casted as the son of Shirley Partridge, who was played by his real-life stepmother. The show featured a family traveling the country and performing music in a rock band.
He had seven chart-topping "Partridge Family" singles, including "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat" and "I Woke Up in Love This Morning." At the end of 1970, Cassidy had the No. 1 single of the year with "I Think I Love You."
He also garnered multiple Grammy nominations and won a Golden Apple Award. Between 1970 and 1975, membership in his official fan club exceeded that of Elvis Presley and The Beatles, becoming the largest fan club in the history of the music industry.
Aside from his career, Cassidy is also an active spokesperson and advocate for various Alzheimer's organizations since his mother's own battle with dementia. Cassidy is the father of two children, Beau and Katie. Katie is continuing in the family business, currently starring in the CW network series "Arrow."
