Guitar used by two Beatles at 'Mystery Tour' sessions sells for over $400k

A Vox guitar played by both John Lennon and George Harrison sold at Julien's Auctions today for $408,000, the auction house announced Saturday.
The guitar was sold during the annual "Music Icons" auction event held at the Hard Rock Café New York. The instrument was built by Mike Bennett and Dickey Denney and was gifted to "Magic Alex" Mardas by John Lennon in 1967.
Harrison played the guitar while practicing "I Am the Walrus" during "Magical Mystery Tour" sessions and by Lennon while recording a video session for "Hello, Goodbye." The auction house had estimated its worth at $200,000 to $300,000.
It was displayed at Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons in Ireland and also The Stafford Kempinski Hotel in London before being brought to New York, where it was on exhibit at the Hard Rock Café all this week.
Over 450 items of music memorabilia and items from The Beatles, Elvis Presley, King of Pop Michael Jackson, Bette Midler, The Rolling Stones, David Cassidy, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Madonna and Jimi Hendrix were sold during the auction, according to the auction house.
Other prices: Conway Twitty's 1957 Gretsch guitar sold for $23,750, Elvis Presley's pants worn in "Jailhouse Rock" went for $12,500, an Elvis Presley owned slot machine sold for $15,000, a pair of Elvis' sunglasses sold for $28,125 and a David Cassidy stage-worn jumpsuit sold for $18,750
