My CHERISH story
October 7 (Saturday), 1972
Tulsa Fairgrounds, Tulsa, OK
David came to my hometown on October 7, 1972. (Almost 34 years ago..WOW!)
My best friend and I went to his concert. We were in love with him as much as two teenagers could be!
My favorite song he sang at the time was CHERISH. He sang song after song but still no CHERISH. The concert was close to being over when my friend nudged me and said..."You know, if we were to leave early we may be able to find where he will make his exit." My response was..."He hasn't sang CHERISH yet.
She talked me into it and sure enough we found what looked to be like a garage door where a car would come out of. As we stood there for what seemed like forever...I heard from inside of the building the music to CHERISH being played.
He saved it for his encore song. I could barely hear him sing it over all the screams but I managed. My friend and I were standing right off the edge of the driveway. There weren't a lot of people there even at that point.
Finally the door raised and out came a car. As the car raced past us, I could see David. He was on my side of the car. I missed my favorite song but I got to be that close to him even though there was a window and a car door between us. I will NEVER forget it!
Postscript
On May 13, 2006 I flew to Nashville, Tennessee to see David.
I got even closer to him because I had my picture taken with him. I got to SEE and HEAR him sing CHERISH.
It took almost 34 years but it was worth the wait! That is my CHERISH story. I loved sharing it with you!
