My Wonderful D.C. Experience In The U.S.A.
September 8 and 9, 2000.

I arrived, for my very first experience of the US, from England on Wednesday afternoon, having travelled all on my own, and I stayed with my friend Nancy for 2 nights in Clifton. She made me so welcome and we had a fabulous time watching all her DC videos and talking (we had been e-mailing each other for a while but had never actually met). On Thursday she took me shopping which was great. The service in the US is marvellous and the food is incredible.
On Friday we drove to AC. We were staying at Harrah's and it was my first experience of a casino. I also got to meet another friend that I have made through the internet, Robin, and she stayed with us in our suite and went to the concerts with us. The show on Friday was amazing. David lights up the stage...he has so much charisma. We were 4 tables back but could see everything just fine. He opened with 'I Can Feel Your Heartbeat' which really got the concert off to a great start. He sang a very good mix of songs. I felt he had a really good balance between early PF stuff and later songs. He also sang 'I'll Meet You Halfway' and 'Echo Valley 26809' (and he did the 'this pillow that I'm ***** and kissing' thing again). I particularly enjoyed 'Sing Me' as he talked about having spent time in AC when he was a kid and travelled there with his parents from West Orange, and I have always loved that song. He also played a snippet of Hendrix on the guitar and at the end said 'thank you Jimi'. It was great. At the first 2 shows he just played a little bit but at the last show he played quite a lot. I loved that...he was obviously having SUCH a great time just standing on stage jamming, playing Hendrix. The thing I remember most about the whole show was his enthusiasm, and he just soaked up the adulation (there was plenty of it) !!!!!
It was an experience I will never forget. I thought he was fantastic at the first concert on Friday and never dreamed that his performance could be bettered...it was! The early show on Saturday was even more alive and David was clearly having a good time. We were a bit closer for that concert sitting 3 tables back. The last concert, despite having trouble with his voice (he had to clear his throat a couple of times when he sang 'I Am A Clown') his performance was EVEN better. We were only 2 tables back for this concert which was great and I went to the front towards the end of the concert. The atmosphere up in front of the stage was electric. Some of the fans were rubbing their hands up and down his leg but he didn't move so I guess he liked it??? I got to shake his hand, but the best part was just being so close that I could see him so well. His throat must have been killing him by the end of the night. I know that he was on voice rest after each show to try and save his voice....I don't know if that was because he was ill or just as a precaution. I have to say that you wouldn't have guessed that he had a bad throat though.....his voice was just awesome!!!!!!! I had the most fabulous time, and I got to meet so many people from the internet (including Leigh from England who I had also never met before.....fancy travelling 3,500 miles to meet someone who only lives 150 miles from me in England!!!) I also met Robyn Hadden (David's assistant) who was really nice too. I had the BEST time!!!!!
