Story and photos by Terri
Hello all, my name is Terri and when I found out that David Cassidy was coming to Hollywood on July 21, 2001, I couldn't believe it. My Teen Idol...And I was able to go! With a few problems.
I have a Daughter with Autism, she is my youngest and no one except my Mother would watch her. Since I live in Stockton, Ca. I was going to have to be gone overnight. I talked it over with My mom and of course she said "Go Terri."
So I purchased my ticket and made all the reservations. Then on July 4th My Mother came over to visit, she hadn't been feeling well and had went to the Doctor for some testing. I was asking her about the testing she didn't want to talk about it. She finally broke down and told me she had terminal cancer.........
I took her to the cancer specialist and he said she had about 3 months to live as the cancer was to far for chemo to work.
When the 20th of July rolled around, I wasn't going to go to Hollywood. My mother said "Terri Go!" So My Mother and my God mother watched my children and I went.
I drove to Sacramento, got on a Plane July 21st and went to Hollywood. I arrived at the Burbank Airport and got my rental car and drove to my hotel.
I was so nervous trying to forget what was happening at home and have a good time.
After checking in the Hotel I went and did all the tourist things. My Mother had Dad had lived in Hollywood years ago. She told me I would be disappointed, that it wasn't at all like T.V. and she was right.
I went to the walk of fame, The Chinese theatre, Fredrick's of Hollywood. And I was disappointed it looked real Ghetto...Finally it was time to go back to the Hotel and get ready!
After getting ready I called a cab and went to The Greek. The cab driver was hitting on me, saying he would be waiting for me after the concert, - Oh My..
I met two ladies that told me if I wanted a better seat to go up to the counter and ask to upgrade, so I did, but still didn't get as close as I wanted. So as God would have it I started talking to a security guard and telling him that there were empty seats in the pit and asked him why couldn't I just sit there.
He told me after the comedian was over come see him and he would take me down there. So in the mean time I went to my seat, right behind me was Shaun Cassidy and his wife. I went to get at Soda at one point and saw Drew Carrey arrive with a date!
After the comedian I rushed over to the security guard and as he promised he and another guard escorted me down to the pit.
It was intermission time. I turned around and was looking to see if I could see Sue and Beau. Then I also saw that Ryan Cassidy and Katie Cassidy were there and even David's Mom Evelyn Ward.
In The pit I was sitting next to a man whom had a photographers camera, I had just brought a throw away in case they didn't let me take it in. I was chatting nervously with him for along time, I asked him why they let him bring in that kind of camera, his answer made me feel 2 inches tall; He was Henry Diltz, David's personal photographer! We talked a lot that night.
Then finally the moment I had waited 30 years for, they introduced David....And for you younger girls, Us older girls still can scream just as loud!
One girl I had been talking to said " Now don't embarrass us and take your panties off." I looked at her as serious as I could and said "What Panties?" Just kidding I did have some on. She said "That's a sign of a mature woman"!!!
The concert went by so fast, and no one was going up to the stage. So I told Henry excuse me, and went up there. Once I got there I was in shock, not knowing what to do. David came over to my side of the stage and held his hand out to me, and I froze. Everything in me said reach your hand out Terri,Terri, Hello!!! So finally I did and he sang a verse of Cherish to me!! What a Kodak moment! Girls and Ladies did go to the stage the rest of the night.
I had the best time! They did have a meet and greet that night but I wasn't one of the winners. (Editors note: The contest was from David's Official Web Site and the contest winners were notified the day before by email.)
I was also worrying about the cab driver waiting outside. But the 2 ladies I met offered me a ride back to my hotel. That was Great.
After the concert I Met Sue and told her "Thank you" for all her efforts with disabled children and told her that I have an Autistic little Girl. She hugged me. She seemed to have such a big heart. I told her that I was a big Fan of David's but also her's too. It was all surreal and then it was over.
The next day flying back I cried a lot about my Mom. And on August 8th 2001, my Mom lost her fight with Cancer. But she had given me one last gift. One that only a Mother would give- she gave of herself for me........One last time...
