Wristbands were given out to those who paid the higher priced tickets to sit in the first 10 rows and only those people were allowed to go up to the stage to shake David's hand or give him something.
As soon as David came on stage, fans immediately went in front of the stage and stood there so that some fans couldn't see. After about 4 songs, someone in the second row kept saying "Down in front!" David said "Do you want everybody to sit down?" She said "yes." So David said, "You heard her. Everybody sit down." So the back of the audience cheered.
That lasted for a few more songs and then people ran up front again. David said it took him 9 hours to get there and the band 11 hours from Los Angeles! He said "We were unable to do the sound check which is not important unless you care what it sounds like." There were definitely a lot of sound problems and it was extremely loud. David kept waving at the band.
His guitar was out of tune so he decided to play "air guitar" instead. He was in a good mood in spite of all the problems and made the best of it. He said this was the first show he's ever done without a sound check. Someone asked him to sing the rain song. He didn't know which rain song she meant so he sang a line of "She'd Rather Have the Rain." and "Rainmaker."
One fan gave him orange roses and David held them up close to his face and said "Do you think this is my color?" Another fan threw up a thong and David picked it up and joked "I'll wear it a little later, not now."
Another fan gave him a Hawaiian lei and David sang a few lines of the song "Blue Hawaii" imitating Elvis' voice and he said, "I just got lei'd" (as a play on words for "getting laid" - a U.S. slang for having sex.)
David got upset with a girl who kept talking over him. She was leaning against the stage and she said something and David told her to leave. She didn't go, so he told her if she talks again, she will be kicked out.
Fans sang "Happy Birthday" to David and later a radio DJ brought out a huge birthday cake with 53 candles. The sang "Birthday" by the Beatles to him and he blew out some candles and waved out the rest.
David ended as usual with "I Think I Love You." However, he did NOT do an encore which is usually does at most concerts. Some fans waited for autographs at the side exits of the theater. David did not use those doors as he was staying in the hotel. So instead, he took the elevator up to his room.
