The Bethlehem, PA Show

Musikfest-Zoellner Art Center, Bethlehem, PA
I flew to Philadelphia late Thursday night to stay with my good friend Donna. For any of you long-time members, I think you'll remember Donna (dcfanphilly) and her miracle baby, who is now 3 YEARS OLD! I've known Donna for 6 years now but had never met the kids. She also has a 7-year-old that they adopted when Donna couldn't get pregnant. (And then later got pregnant LOL.) Donna's husband picked me up at the airport but it was very late so I just got a chance to glance at the kids in their beds when I arrived.
Friday we all got up, got dressed, and prepared for the show that night. Donna said we should leave at about 3:00 just in case we hit rush hour. Good thing we left early, as there was a lot of traffic and it took us hours to get to the Lehigh University where David was playing. We arrived around 5:30 and decided to go inside and see if we could see or hear anything interesting. Sure enough, we could hear the band doing sound check. We tried to peek through the crack in the doors but couldn't see anything. A guy came along and said "I can't let you in yet" and I said "can we just peek in the door?" So he opened the door and we looked toward the stage. Everybody was there except David. Rob wasn't at the keyboards, it was Rachel. We were now all excited and saw that the front row (where we had seats) was very very close to the stage. Yippee!
We went back outside and wandered around, just killing time. Suddenly someone was honking at us wildly. It was Janie and Barb. Barb yelled out the window "GET IN" so we ran to her car and jumped in. We showed her where to park and we all headed inside. We found Patty and Charlotte inside. By this time there were quite a few people waiting. Nancy and her sister arrived. We all said our hello's and before you know it, they were opening the doors. The lady at the doors told us that they would "see if they could get David to sign some autographs afterwards" so we were hoping that would happen but unfortunately it didn't.
The majority of the front row was davidforever girls! I had the seat on the very end on the right side. Then Nancy and her sister sat next to me. Next to them, the 4 UK girls. On the other end of the row--Donna, Janie, Barb, Diana, Charlotte (did I forget anyone?). There was one man in the front row, and at one point he tried to take David's water bottle, saying "I'm thirstier than you are" to David! David looked at him strangely and said "how do you know you're thirstier than me?" In the end, Barb grabbed the water bottle and gave it to Donna. Donna was in 7th heaven about that (she took it home and wrapped it in foil!).
David was wearing that wrinkly, baggy white shirt again. God he needs a new shirt.
There was a small girl in the 2nd row. David saw her and commented "do you even know who I am?" and she said "Yes you're David Cassidy. Remember the Cooper?" and then David realized that they were the people who had won the bid on his mini-Cooper car! He told the audience about how he had auctioned it off, and then asked them where they had come from. They said Sioux City. David said "You came all the way from Sioux City Idaho?" and then immediately realized that Sioux City is NOT in Idaho, and he kinda went "Oh DUH, I mean Iowa!"
David was in a tremendous mood and commented that the night was perfect. He didn't have any guitar problems, it's a first! He was pretty chatty (what's new!)..mentioned that he had not had much sleep the night before because his son wasn't feeling well and he was up with him. Also mentioned that he had been having some back problems and needed a chiropractor, but that when he comes out onstage, the adrenaline always takes over and he forgets about his aches and pains.
During Echo Valley, Charlotte handed her phone to him. Terry changed her line to "you have reached a disconnected number" which made it not be quite as funny. When David handed the cell phone back to Charlotte, she put it down Diana's blouse! David said "I am NOT looking at that!" which means of course he saw it!!!
When David did his acoustic set, where he mentions being with John Lennon on New Years Eve, and everyone was drunk, this time he said he had Susan Dey's head in his lap! There's a new one!
It was definitely Charlotte's night. During Cherish, David went over, right in front of her, and sat down on the edge of the stage. He motioned for her to come to him. No argument there, she popped up! He sang to her for a long time, as she put her arms around him and hugged him tightly. It was the most envious thing ever! Then when he tried to get up he barely could, and he looked rather funny, rolling backwards to get himself off the floor!
The audience was great at the end, being very loud, so he came back for encore and sang Cry. It was beautiful. And then once again, it was over. Why does time always fly at these shows??
