Concert Review
Halifax, Nova Scotia Casino, Nova Scotia
August 22 & 23, 2008
I saw David perform in 2 shows in Nova Scotia last weekend and I wanted to write about how wonderful they were. When I first started attending shows I used to post my reviews all the time but I figured everyone had had enough of my ramblings LOL. I usually just write them for myself these days. That probably seems silly to keep writing reviews for myself but each show is different and I enjoy reading back and remembering all the little details. I do tend to ramble and I don't always have the incidents in the right order, but there you go..LOL that's how I review. As David often says on stage, "Thanks for indulging me!"
Halifax, Nova Scotia was just lovely. Honestly, I've been to so many great places that I might never had gone to had there not been a concert there. The intimate venue was in the small Casino Nova Scotia right on the ocean.absolutely beautiful. Lots of little shops and restaurants to wander into, all situated right on the gorgeous ocean. I'm from Boston, MA so it reminded me a lot of home, but far less crowded and populated, which was great.and
David came out singing Hush and he looked and sounded fabulous.I just love how he sings that song; it gives me chills no matter how many times I hear it. I saw him look down at the end of the song and apparently he was looking for his song list and it wasn't there because he said something to Frank afterward and he put a list down. Of course David made a funny joke.and an adorable face.about the list and asked the audience how would he know what to sing. It was very warm that whole weekend, which apparently isn't always so. As soon as I began dancing and clapping I became so hot I can only imagine how it must have been for poor David as he started singing and dancing under the hot lights. He didn't let it bother him though and actually made a lot of funny jokes about it throughout the performances..don't you just love how he can make a joke about almost anything?! At the Saturday show he was flinging sweat on to the stage and saying "that's disgusting!" and of course we were all screaming back "no it's not!" David said that he needed to use a shower and one brilliant woman in the back yelled out "Mine's available!"..Wish I'd said that! LOLI love watching him so relaxed and having such a great time with us all as he told us about his upcoming TV show, about his new CD, his family..all kinds of lovely chit-chat.
In between songs, David talked to us about how much he was enjoying Nova Scotia.how great the weather was and how beautiful their province was. The hall was wonderfully small and intimate.I would guess at about 300 but I'm not sure. It was packed solid both nights and talking to people in the audience, I learned there were tons of fans who hadn't seen David since the 70s and they were soooo excited. That was so much fun too.watching them, I mean. I don't think they realized it was okay.and fun.to act like crazy 16 year olds again and I had to literally push a few up there to stick up there hands to hold his. (LOL which they then had no problem going up to do repeatedly for the rest of the night!) Also, at first the audience was a little reticent about going to the stage because security was polite but firm, but after awhile they could see that David encouraged them and almost everyone was soon standing and dancing in the aisles.
When he was singing Echo Valley, I encouraged some excited fans next to me to run up with their cell phone. I have been to shows before and I have been lucky enough to have him take my phone and think everyone else should have their chance, you know? But I don't think they believed me LOL, because no one ran up with a phone and David had to ask for one! It was actually cute because they all looked at me so sadly because they'd missed their chance and I laughed, "I TOLD you!".
I had gone to the Washington show weeks before and David had played the drums while Teri sang Brass In Pocket..amazing surprise!! But my seat was way in the back there and I didn't have a very good view of David playing. I was in front this time and hoping against hope that they would do it again because #1) watching David play drums.sighhhh..and #2) I enjoyed hearing Teri sing and that is one of my absolute favorite songs from the seventies. And they did!! It was everything everyone has said and even better this time. It was fantastic! Gawd, David is sooooo sexy playing drums LOL. Ahem.and more importantly of course, he plays them very well! And Teri's version of BIP is wonderful too.
On Saturday, David talked about he and the guys going out and seeing the various historical sites that day. He discussed some of Halifax's history, the beautiful ocean and it's walkways, etc. Said how he thought he wanted to move there now, how it really was beautiful and so friendly. This brought on a very sweet moment: David was talking with the audience about parts of their history and then he began singing the opening lines of the Canadian National Anthem. Well, the band started accompanying him and a few people began to sing along too. After a couple of verses, everyone joined in and then they ALL stood as one, hand on heart and sang the whole thing on the top of their lungs and so beautifully. David had stopped a moment in surprise but then joined in again at the last few verses (Gorgeous! Oh his voice!). It was wonderful to see his face LOL..he was SO surprised. At the end, he clapped for them all and thanked them and apologized for not knowing all the words in the middle. It really was a beautiful and unexpected thing to witness. It added a lovely touching and uniting moment.very special.
Well, I'm rambling again.probably without giving enough info. Anyway, the shows were magnificent. David was magnificent..his voice just gets richer and richer, doesn't it? On Friday, the audiences were a little calmer but David pulled them in and made them rock. By Saturday he had most of them energized!! He was in top form...funny, charming, perfect voice. Really fabulous shows and Nova Scotia adored him. You could hear all the newbie concert goers talking about it after Friday's show and before and after Saturday's show. That was fun....to hear new, unsolicited opinions about his fabulous voice and how charming he was. There didn't seem to be an unhappy person anywhere....LOL not even the men! Thank you, David for a truly memorable weekend.
