Concert Review
Waukesha County Expo Center, Waukesha, WI
June 5th, 2008
I left Thursday morning and drove to Waukesha Wisconsin for David's concert. It was about a four and a half hour drive for me. I did not mind though, as I had driven farther to see David before. I got to town and checked into my hotel around 1:00 p.m. After getting my things situated, I called Nancy to let her know I was there and checked in. Nancy drove from Jersey and stayed with me at the hotel and shared a room. She got there shortly after I did. I had 4th row tickets for the show. Nancy ended up having an extra front row ticket so she gave it to me. (Thanks Nancy you are wonderful!) We visited for awhile and talked about David and what we had been up to. We then finished getting ready to go to the show. I knew the venue was nearby my hotel. I had to ask directions. We got there just fine. It was an atmosphere of a county fair. Rides, food, music, beer, etc. We were not sure exactly which stage David was performing on, so it took us awhile before we finally found the right one.
It was outdoors, under a temporary metal pole building. There were folding chairs for the ticket holders, and general admission fans sat in the back with their own chairs they had to bring. We found our seats. We met up with a few of the other regular David fans that were there also, and chatted a bit. Some guy, (not sure who he was) played and sang songs to entertain us while waiting for Davey Jones to come on. Off to the side was a VIP section for fans who paid $75.00 to get in to meet David. It was my understanding that this was to be a limited thing, but I guess others from the radio station and their friends got in too. There must have been 40 people or more waiting to see and meet David. Not sure what happened back stage. I had just met him back stage a month ago, so I did not feel like paying to meet David.
At 7:00 p.m. Davey Jones' band took the stage. Then Davey came out. I will be honest, I did not care for him or his jokes. He did a nice show and all, but I was not a fan like I am of David's. When Davey was done, the Meet and Greet took place backstage. Nancy and I went for a potty break before David would come on. Not sure exactly what time David came out. I had my camera ready to go. We were not allowed to take video at all. Security was very tight. We were told if we got caught doing any video, we would be escorted out of the show. I was not going to do anything to get thrown out after driving so far.
David was introduced and came out. He wore the usual white shirt and black pants. He opened with Heartbeat, then Crossroads. David had some technical problems with his guitar, but did not let it get to him and went on. His microphone acted up a couple times and his acoustic guitar was not turned on. Frank came out and saved the day. I thought he might get into a bad mood over that, or get sarcastic, but he did not. He just went on like a true professional. I know some were quite unhappy about the mishaps, but I enjoyed the show and thought he was handling things very well.
Other songs he sang were Summer Days, Ain't No Sunshine, Echo Valley, Rock Me Baby, Remix of Halfway, Cherish, I Woke Up In Love, Beatles medley, (had to quit due to problems) and more. He ended with I Think I Love You, and thanked everyone for coming. There was no encore.
There was a barricade in front of the stage, so no one could touch him. I went up there anyway, and he tried to reach me, but of course could not. At least he acknowledged me and sang to me. I had a wonderful time. I met up with some of the regulars and got to meet Sam from Florida. She was way cool to meet. After the show, we saw the Partridge Family Bus parked in the parking lot. Some people stopped for pictures. I had already put my camera away, so I did not get a snapshot. It was of course just a remake, as the actual one is scrapped. Nancy and I said our goodbyes to everyone. We then headed to find something to eat as we were starving! We ended up talking until about 1:30 in the morning and finally went to bed. Nancy and I said our goodbyes, hugged, and left for home that morning. It was nice seeing Nancy and having her stay with me. I had a great time and got home safely around 2:00 p.m. I do not have any plans to see David in the near future as he will not be anywhere near me. Thanks for reading and enjoy the pictures!
