David Cassidy Concert Review
David Cassidy, Ivins Utah
May 9, 2008
I had known about this concert for sometime. Actually, Mary got the tickets for this show just after we saw David in Enid OKLA. Mary invited me to go. I had no idea if I was going to make this concert or not, as I had been ill for sometime. By April I was feeling somewhat better, so I booked my flight to Las Vegas. (Love those free airline miles!) I met Mary and her friend Lori at the airport and we took a shuttle to Harrah's where we were staying. Nancy was staying with us too, but she got in a little later than we did. The 3 of us went to dinner, then back to our room to wait for Nancy to come in. We all crashed after a very long day of travels.
Friday morning we went to the Hard Rock Cafe. My husband collects the pins there, so I wanted to get him a few. We ate breakfast at the HRC and took a taxi back to our hotel. We met up with Rob at around 2:00 p.m. Rob was also staying at Harrah's, so the 5 of us all rode together to see David's concert. The ride through Nevada, Arizona, and Utah was just beautiful. I have not been west too often, so the beauty of the mountains really stuck me. When we got into town where the venue was, we saw a big banner of David attached to the street poles. We pulled over to have a picture with it. As we drove off, we saw many of these banners lining the street posts. They were very nice.
Then it was off to the venue. It was just awesome. As we drove up, it looked like the stage was in the side of a mountain. This was some really pretty country here. We parked and walked our way up the drive. A man with a golf cart gave us a ride up and around the back. There were a lot of steps to go up and he must have been giving people help up there. When we got there, a bunch of the UK girls were already there. I met Rose and Frances for the first time. (sorry I do not remember the other's names). I visited a bit while Mary went to pick up our tickets to the show. After a short while, one of the venue people came out looking for me. Someone pointed her in my direction.
She said to come with her and get my 2 friends, (Mary and Lori). I knew what that meant! I had made arrangements for us to go back stage to meet David. It was Mary's birthday, and she had never met David before. So I really wanted to do this for her. I found Mary in a gift shop. I yelled to her to come on, I had a surprise for her. Told her that she was meeting David! Mary was just shocked... and excited all at the same time. We found Lori and were let in the gate. We went down the steps into the side of the mountain where David was. There were 13 of us in a room waiting for him.
It was past the start of the show when he came out. We all screamed! He was wearing the usual white shirt and black pants, but had a lovely brown jacket on. He was glad to see us too. He told us he was having problems with his neck from sleeping on the planes. That the staff was bringing him ice in constantly. He was in a terrific mood. He said to save time, that the person who brought us down would take our picture with David, and mail it to us later.(Still waiting to get it!) When it was my turn to go up, I gave him a big hug and said I love You. Told him I came all the way from Iowa to see him. He was surprised I think, that I traveled that far. It all ended as fast as it started. He looked awesome in the brown jacket. We then were told to leave and take our seats. I saw Frank the bass player and asked to pose for a picture. He did. We took our seats. I had 3rd row aisle seats on the left center part of the stage. The view of the stage with the mountain back drop was way cool.
After a few minutes he came out, with the brown jacket on. He opened with the usual, Heartbeat. He also sang Daydreamer, Meet you half way, (remix and by himself), Summer days, How can I be sure, Cherish, Beatle Medley, I woke up in Love, Ain't no sunshine, I Think I love you, and a new song called Sweet Little angel. I am sure I am missing something. He talked about the TV show he and his brothers were working on. They have 4 shows taped. Shaun producing, Ryan set designs etc and David and Patrick sing. He also talked about the Oprah show. It was the highest rated show ever, with David on there. (Incase you did not know.) David was quite impressed with Oprah and vise versa. During the show, I went up and kissed David during my favorite song, Summer Days. I later was at the stage and shook his hand and he sang to me. When he sang Daydreamer, he had everyone put their cell phone lights on and sway back and forth to the music. I had not seen this before. He also let a bunch of kids get up on stage and talked with them and let parents take their pictures. Not seen that before either. The stage was near ground level, so it was easy to walk up to David. He came out for a one song encore, Cry. He talked about his dad and was tough for him to not cry. He really held that last note quite long. Then he left.
I did manage to get a guitar pick, some great pictures, great videos, a Meet and Greet, and fun meeting some new friends as well as old ones. It was a blast. It was almost magical. I was so happy that Mary got to meet David and had a wonderful birthday because of it. I had been trying to get her to let me buy her something, but she refused. But she could not refuse meeting David! LOL! Now on to the June 5th show in Wisconsin.
