Concert Review

John Burns Park. Massapequa, NY

August 1, 2009

I was in Massapequa Long Island for the show last Saturday, here is my review and a couple of photographs...I hope you like it.

Saturday 1st August and it is a beautiful day, there isn't a cloud in the sky and the sun is very warm, we were so pleased about this as the day before had been cloudy and there had been a huge rainstorm at about 8pm......anyway our prayers had been answered and as often happens David had brought the sunshine with him!

I had travelled to the States and met up with my friend Janie in Boston and we had driven down to Long Island for the show. We started Saturday by visiting John J Burns park to see the venue; the park is in a lovely residential area and there were children playing baseball on the field were David was to perform later that evening. We spent the day in the sun and swimming in the hotel pool, and excitedly looked forward to the finale of this perfect summer's day...what better a David Cassidy concert!

We returned to the park at about 5pm and there were already a few people sitting on garden chairs and blankets awaiting the 8pm show. In front of the stage were rows of seats reserved for VIP's however we were lucky enough to find a spot just behind the barrier separating this area from the field, this was great and we settled down on our blanket to wait for the show. Whilst we waited we were watching hoards and hoards of people keep arriving! The car park filled up and then they started using other car parks and bringing fans in by bus and still they continued to come by the hundreds, it was wonderful to see such a huge crowd.

At 8pm the local organisers were introduced and then after a young local singer sang the American National Anthem David bounded onto the stage ! He looked really happy and healthy and was full of energy, which was amazing when he told us about the journey all across the country along with a flight delay and his filming of Ruby & The Rockits up until 10pm the night before and therefore hardly any sleep ! He started the show with " I can feel your heartbeat" and as the sun began to set on this beautiful park his beautiful voice rang out and the crowd screamed excitedly. When he finished he told us the number of people at the show had broken all records and how honoured he was, he then asked everyone to indulge him as he played a song he had grown up with....he played "Crossroads" and showed what a skilful guitarist he is ! David explained that the area of Long Island held happy memories for his because as a child his mother took him to Jones Beach. This was literally down the road from our hotel so we went next day and wrote his name in the sand!

Jones Beach

David went on to sing one of my all time favourite Partridge family songs..Albuquerque. He also sang Echo Valley and as there were no fans up by the stage he pretended to have a phone and spoke in a comical voice at the part he usually takes a cell phone. He did a fantastic performance of Hush....another one of my favourites and another that showcases David guitar skills! He did his acoustic set and I must say I am so pleased he did Ricky's tune during this......I love that song! He performed the remix version of Cherish and his endless energy was amazing. He played the drums whilst Teri sang........I love to see him play drums!

All too soon it was time for David to introduce the band.....oh no the show is going to finish soon!! Well he sang a flawless rendition of "I woke up in love this morning" and danced a cute little jig in the middle of the song!

The show finished with "I think I love you"and I can honestly say there wasn't a single person not up on their feet dancing and singing, David rocked the whole town of Massapequa last Saturday night! It was an honour to be there and see him play to his home crowd!
