David Cassidy in Concert
Isle Casino, Bettendorf, Iowa
April 23, 2010
Earlier this year I noticed on David's website that a concert was listed for Iowa. Needless to say I was just thrilled as I am from Iowa.
David has been to Iowa on a couple of occasions (radio show back in the early days and a few years ago with his race horse), but never to perform. I have been waiting for him to come here to sing forever. So when this show came up I was so excited! I got my ticket and booked my room at the casino. I wasn't sure what kind of turn out would be there, since this was a smaller venue in the mid-west. But it was a sold out show. Over 1,000 people were there. Friday morning I got the truck loaded up and hit the road. My husband came along for the company but did not go to the show. It was a 2 and a half hour drive to the venue from where I live. This was the shortest distance I had to drive or fly to see David. It rained most of the way there, but nothing was going to stop me from going.
We arrived at the casino around lunch time. Took a walk around to see where everything was and where to go for the show. The show was to start at 7:30 so doors opened at 6:00PM. I left around 5 o'clock and headed to the skywalk doors that let to the Convention Center where the concert was held. A few people were already in line. More started to come after I arrived. It was General admission, so everyone wanted to get there and find a good seat. When the doors opened people rushed in to get in line for the show. There were a few lines, and a line for VIP, High Rollers. They got to be seated in the very front and everyone got seats after them. I was concerned about where I would end of sitting since I was one of the GUEST VIP's getting to meet David backstage. I found someone I knew and they saved me a seat in about the 10th row. (Thanks for doing that!)
All the VIP's were to meet at 6:45 to go back and see David. You could have a picture, but no autographs. It ended up being after 7:00 when we finally got back stage to see him, so time with him was cut short. There was just over 20 of us for him to meet and pose for a picture before the show started. David looked really good. Wore his white shirt and black pants and had a wonderful tan. He was very excited to meet us all. It was an awesome time to meet David, even though it was quick. After each person had their picture with David, you left to go back to your seat. The place was packed! I was so happy to see a full house for David's sake.
Not sure exactly what time the show started, was too caught up in the moment from seeing David backstage. Finally a man from a local radio station came out and announced David to sing. He came out and opened with I Can Feel Your Heartbeat. The large crowd went wild and whistled and cheered. A group of fans brought up a sign they had made for David. It said something like "You can put your partridge in my pear tree anytime." David was in a very good mood. He talked about how he got his start in Iowa. How when the PF song I Think I Love You first came out, no radio station would play it. But after some convincing, one station in Cedar Rapids Iowa started to play it. It got requested a lot and grew on people, so other stations across the country played it too. It was played so much it went to number 1 in a week. So he was grateful that this station here in Iowa helped him get his start.
David was barricaded off so no one could get to the stage to touch him. Fans kept coming up to the barricade for pictures or just to dance. People danced in there seats and in the aisles. They really enjoyed the show and seeing David sing. Listening to people talk before the show, I would say most of the crowd had never seen David live before.
Somewhere during the show a fan threw a bra up on stage for David. He picked it up and looked at it. The person whom it was from, had written a message to David inside the bra. She was someone from Omaha Nebraska.
He sang a lot of the usual hits we all love to hear. The last song was I Think I Love you, and dedicated it to his fans. Everyone rushed up as close as they could and sang with him to the song. People were dancing and having fun with it all. Then he and the band left the stage. Everyone stayed and chanted for David to return, but he did not.
It was a terrific show and everyone there had a wonderful time. It was about an hour and a half show. I was very thankful for getting in to meet him backstage. (Many thanks to the person who helped me with that ! ) It was an awesome night, one I will never forget. I cannot wait for him to come back to Iowa for another show. Thank you David for making that night so special for me, you are simply the BEST!
