Concert Review

Turning Stone Casino, Verona, NY

February 11, 2010

I recently rediscovered the Partridge Family and David Cassidy music. I was listening to it all the time in the car when bringing my 12 year old daughter, Cara, to all her soccer events. I bought some music on iTunes, but I thought that David wouldn't sound the same now that it is 40 years later. I decided to check out a live album and hear for myself. I couldn't believe it. He sounded terrific. So for my birthday in October, I bought two tickets for his 2/11/10 concert in Verona NY the minute they went on sale. I few days later, I was talking about who I would invite when my daughter wanted to know why I wasn't inviting her. I told her I didn't think she would want to go . She said she did. Wow, OK. So now it looks like we will have a mother/daughter adventure. This would be the first DC concert for both of us.

After months of waiting , the day of the concert finally dawns. We leave the house at 10 am. We make the necessary stop at Dunkin Donuts to get coffee for me and a bagel for her. We are only an hour or so from the casino. The driving weather is perfect with bright sunshine and clear roads. We arrive at the casino, and it is gigantic. All the employees are nice. We look around and find out that the concert is in the showroom. One of the employees takes us to the showroom. We ask about whether we can go in for the sound check, but the doors are locked. We can see David's band, but David is not there. As we peak inside, we see that the room is small. It only holds 500 people!

The time is finally here. The audience seating was at tables not the usual rows of seats. We were brought to our seats. We were in the center of the audience one table back from the stage. We are only about six feet from the stage. Now we wait in anticipation. HE comes on stage and he looks great. His opening song is "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat" . He sounds wonderful. After the first song, he tells us it took him 5 hours to get to Verona when it should've taken 2 hours. He didn't arrive at the casino until 6 pm. For those of you outside of the US, a few days before this concert, we had two huge snowstorms on the east coast making all travel difficult. His band members were traveling from all over, but Sully said that he had two days of "Trains, Planes and Automobiles" to get to Verona.

David said he was fighting a cold, but his voice sounded great!!! How does he still hit those high notes? He is truly an entertainer; he is not just a singer. I have seen lots of other performers, but I have to say he was the best of the bunch. He was so relaxed, and he was really enjoying himself. He said that Turning Stone Casino was his favorite venue as it is so intimate. He had played here several years ago, and he told them he would love to come back. Thanks Turning Stone for inviting him back!

David sang Hush , I'll Meet You Halfway, Cherish , Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque , I Woke Up in Love This Morning, Mae, Summer Days, Echo Valley 26809, and Ain't No Sunshine and Hide Your Love Away. These are in no particular order since I was in such a daze during the concert. I'd heard about DC Fog! OK now I get it. He did tell us that his guitar didn't make it to the casino due to the snowstorms. So, they had to rent a guitar for him from the local music shop. HE also played the drums while Teri sang Brass in Pocket. His last song was ITILY.

Cara sang along to all of the songs with David. The woman sitting across from us was amazed that Cara knew all the words! When he got to ITILY, many women went to the stage. No one approached the front of the stage before this as the tables were set very close together. Cara wanted to touch his hand, but she couldn't get through to the stage. He ran off the stage after ITILY . He didn't do an encore . We were disappointed because we didn't want the concert to end. The concert went by so fast.

We were standing right outside the showroom, 30 seconds after the concert ended, when Cara turns to me and says " He was fantastic, and I want to see him again. " I couldn't give David a higher compliment than that. Remember she is 12, so she is usually too cool to get excited.

I GUESS THAT TALENT TRANSCENDS THE GENERATION GAP! Thank you David for a terrific show.
