Concert Review
8th Annual Summer Paw Picnic, Waldorf Farm, North Chathamn NY
August 6, 2011
Our story is never simple. Originally, we were not sure whether we would be able to go to the concert. Cara's schedule has been crammed with sports. Luckily it cleared, and we could go. We start the day with two hours of getting ready (by CARA not me). I helped her with her makeup and curled her hair. Of course we left 1/2 hour later than I had wanted because of her need to get ready! We set out to North Chatham following a different route this year, and we end up in a different town. We see a woman walking, so we stop. We ask for directions to the Waldorf farm .She didn't know how to get there, but luckily, her husband did. He gave us perfect directions (thank you). We go back the right way, and we find the farm. They have it all set up with a tent, tables with chairs, and tables for items to be auctioned.
We hung out with lunch and drinks, the wildlife show, and a stable tour. After the silent auction, the live auction occurred. There was a painting of David and a picture of his horse, both of which he signed. During all this activity, we were trying to decide where to sit. Last year we were in the first row, I told her it was up to her. She didn't want to have David notice her. There were a few kids in the audience under 6, but she was one of only a few teenagers at the concert. She decided that she wanted to sit in the second row, so she was less noticeable. They set up the rope to keep people back from the stage, it was set back about 10 feet this year . The seats were much closer last year. So everyone starts putting chairs behind the rope. So ok we let others go ahead to get the first row, we set are chairs center second row. Ok, only one small problem, someone tall sitting in front of Cara. Cara said she was ok, but then that woman stood up, and she stood the entire concert. I traded seats with Cara, so she could see better.
Before we knew it, Teri introduced David. He came out, and he did C'mon Get Happy, the new version. Next he did Point Me and then Summer Days. It was very humid, and David was sweating a lot. He stopped after Summer Days and ran his fingers through his hair. He looked at his hands, and he said "I've got to stop dying my hair." LOL. He then told the story of working in a textile plant wearing a blue smock but "a cool thin tie with it ." He was 19 years old, and the next youngest person there was 47!! He also talked about how he had to work there to pay back his father for the $1300 suit his dad had bought for him. ($1300 in 1969!) Cara said she thought it was $3600. I believe one of us was in a DC fog, but I am not sure which one!
While we are watching the concert, we see Beau and some of his friends to the right of the stage. As the concert continues, I see a pretty lady dancing. I look closer, and it was Sue ! She looked so cute dancing away.
Next he did I'll Meet You halfway, then Hush . He talked about getting older and slower and said nothing better than an "old slow sweaty guy !" He then started to do the band introductions, first Teri and then Frank . When I said who is that again, Cara said that is Frank Fabio mom! OMG, scary that she knows that. Next was Ryan, and he did a terrific solo. David said "you freaking show off!" Craig then did his solo, and he started playing Let It Be by the Beatles , David sang a line or two with Craig's keyboard solo. Next up was Doesn't Somebody, I Can Feel Your Heartbeat, I Woke Up in Love This Morning and lastly, Sweet Little Angel with Gary Contessa. He said thank you, and he ran off the stage. He jumped on the golf cart like last year, and he was gone. It was kind of unexpected. He didn't do an encore and no ITILY.
The best part was after the show. We went over to Teri, and she said it was good to see us. How are we? She said she did send the photo to us right? (The photo I took last year of Cara and Teri on her camera at the Paws Picnic). She had sent it to us. She said she had just seen it a few days ago, and how beautiful Cara is. She signed the program for Cara, and Ryan signed it as well. We also got Craig J's autograph, Cara had wanted his autograph last year but we couldn't find him. Cara wanted David's autograph, but he was long gone. Maybe next year. So all and all a good day. Thanks David for a great concert that I could share with my daughter.
