Concert Review
David Cassidy at The Orleans May 7th and 8th, 2011
I arrived in Las Vegas the Friday night before the shows. Riding in the taxi to my condo, I saw a billboard of David along the highway.
It was about 8:30 when I finally got there and was tired from a long days travel. Saturday morning I met up with my DC and best buddy Mary who also came in for these concerts. We hung out and had a great time just visiting and catching up. Later before the show we met up with some other DC friends at the Oyster bar. Frank from the band was there eating too. I think it was around 7:30 and we headed to the concert. It was a lovely venue, but small compared to most. For the most part both concerts were sold out.
David came out and sang C'mon Get Happy to start the show. He was in a fantastic mood, jumping and moving all over the place. It was like he was 18 all over again. Maybe it was the white with purple tennies he had on???
As you know from his website, CNN is doing a story on him and his memorabilia. Someone was there doing some filming. A fan gave David a letter and David read it out loud. It was from a big fan. CNN filmed it, so I am sure it was all pre-arranged just for this occasion.
During the band intro when Frank played his base, David sang Birthday, the old Beatles song. I had not seen this before, so it was a treat.
He also sang Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted. Another song I had not heard him play before. It was funny, when you first came in the venue it said no pictures or filming etc... but after the first couple songs everyone went to the stage, stayed there and took all the pictures they wanted. No one came around to make us stop or sit down. We all did the same thing the next night too.
The show was very good, and everyone had a great time. He was to do CRY as an encore for each show but ended each show with ITILY.
A bunch of us went out for something to eat or ice cream after the show. I met some new friends and got some wonderful pictures with them. The next show was pretty much the same with a couple songs cut out. Someone, not sure who, threw a pair of underwear up on the stage... so of course this got his attention.
David wore the usual shirt and pants, but at least the tennies were new! After the show a bunch of us fans went out for dinner and chatted about the show. We all had a great time and it was nice seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. Can't wait to see him again soon!
