An Audience Love-In to Remember with David Cassidy
Rams Head in Annapolis, Maryland was a rousing place to be for David Cassidy fans on January 29th and 30th. Happily, I was able to attend both nights. The venue was sold-out, with adoring fans seated and waiting for David with happy anticipation. We in the audience, could tell David felt the love surrounding him as he glided upon the stage with no shortage of loving fan energy. David confessed he was just a bit nervous this time as he hadn’t performed in quite a while, but was so glad to be back with us and in the abundance of so much love and support that meant “the world” to him. David looked fit and glowing with health. He seemed jubilant, energized, even jumping on stage at times as he smiled, explaining he felt so incredibly happy to be performing and how good it felt to be here on stage in such an intimate setting, connecting to us all once again. We all felt the same emotions. It was a musical love-in!
A fan brought a copy of the album, “Rock Me Baby”, and to fans’ excitement, David obligingly sang a few stanzas while gracefully swaying his body to the delight of fans; sweetly reminiscent of his earlier days performing this favorite tune with the same charismatic current and sensual charm that has remained, like a constant companion. With his usual charm, David presented us with this precious time capsule performance, as he giggled and smiled, commenting that he remembered last singing this tune in 1974.
There was an electrical, lively interaction between David and the audience all throughout the shows. During one especially memorable moment, a devoted fan gifted David with a beautiful hand-made, glittery poster she had lovingly crafted, reminiscent of a more innocent time. It was so pretty and sweet. Everyone cheered, witnessing the energy between them & David, who was visibly moved and grateful as he took time to find a pen to sign the poster.
These were a delightful couple of evenings spent with a talented and dynamic performer who always makes us laugh, while engaging fans with his unique life force and emotive style. Channeling this energy, he invites us into a type of interactive theater that bonds close to our hearts with emotional intensity & amusing celebration. As part of David’s wiring perhaps, he brings his inner muse throughout his life transformations, while fans accompany him on these curves along his musical highway. David isn’t afraid of telling us how he feels or who he is at the moment, and translates those feelings into poignant songs and stories. He opens his heart authentically to fans and that’s one of the reasons David is so beloved.
We departed the venue, ready to face the chill of winter awaiting us outside, now warmed with collective cheer, after sharing these two special evenings with a uniquely one-of-a-kind artist.
