Cat's Special Retro Party 2000 Weekend!
On Saturday, June 10th I went to see "At The Copa" for both shows. As usual, the show was wonderful and during the first show, I was on the right where David comes down into the audience. David came staight to me and gave me kiss. David then went on to many other lucky fans in the audience and even danced with one of them for a little while. Before the second show, my friend Susanne Stiward (of the Web Site Cassidy Friends) and I spotted Shirley Jones in the audience. She was nice enough to pose for us and with us. We also saw David's son Beau, daughter Katie, brother Patrick in the audience. It was also GREAT meeting another fan from one of the PF Web Sites before the second show!! After the second show, we met up with David's lovely wife Sue Cassidy who was also kind enough to take the time to posed with the three of us for a picture. (See photo below.)
Sunday morning we went to the Golf Tournament and David & Patrick came in together and David said to two fans, 'No autographs today.' I said 'Is it ok to take a picture?' David said 'Yea, take a picture of my brother here and I together.' So I did. Then they went to golf. There were about ten DC fans and we had to stay in a designated area.
We were able to later go a little closer and the place brought out a tent for shade for us but it was of course, still very hot. We got to see Katie and her mom Sherry meet up with David's best friend, Sam Hyman. Katie got to drive a golf cart and looked very happy. After waiting until about 1:30 p.m. Steve (who helped put the tournament together) came out to say that David had to leave because he had to go to the retro ball and also perform in "At The Copa" that night. Steve felt badly for us since we were obviously well behaved fans just wanting to take a photo of David golfing, so he gave us some tournament hats to help compensate. He also sold some very nice tournament polo shirts for only $30.00 and let us know they'd go for $60.00 later. We got to share a cab back with some other nice fans.
The retro ball was great! When we arrived to the table in the hall, we saw two P.F. fans, Debbie and Cyndi who also have a DC Web Site. They took some photos of us and we took some of them too. The photo to the right of Suzanne and I was taken by Debbie DePasquale. Shirley Jones was kind wonderful as always and autographed our photo of us with her (see above) from the night before, for both Susanne & I. Shirley was constantly surrounded by people and could hardly move sometimes but she was very gracious and wonderful to everyone!! I was very impressed. She really is just as sweet as you'd imagine her to be. Suzanne Crough (Tracy from the PF) showed up too. Suzanne was also just terrific, signing autographs and posing for pictures with any fans that asked. David's children, Beau and Katie are just adorable and they were absolutely fantastic with the public! Both are very well behaved and down-right charming. If you ask for a photo, they will imediately gointo a pose together. For their protection, David does not want photos of his children on the internet. However, fan club members can see photos of them in the JUST DAVID fan club newsletters. David's wife Sue showed up wearing one of DC's old concert outfits! Sue said it was the outfit David wore at his Webly Stadium, England concert in 1973. This was the very first time she met David! When David arrived, he laughed and said she looked better in it than he ever did! David wasn't able to stay long as he had a show to do but he posed very nicely with Shirley Suzanne and a little later, Sam Hyman. David handed out some awards to people, which were Lava Lamps. I got a lot of positive comments about my outfit and I guess I looked so very 70's, that I got Lava'd on! David dropped one of the lava lamps and it splashed in front of me and a little bit got on me. Luckily, not enough to ruin my outfit just just a little sprinkle. The items for the auction were just incredible!!! Everything was nicely framed or displayed. I just couldn't believe the range of items. They had everything from Bob Hope, Sinatra's photos with autographes, to Jimi Hendrix, The Stones, Janis Joplin autographes, photos, gold albums, Carlos Santana's autographed guitar, trips to wonderful places, etc. Some of the trips bid for less than the air fare alone!
The food was all incredible as were the decorations and band "Boogie Nights". There was some more auctioning of items with Robin Leach as the guest announcer. When someone won an item Sue and Beau Cassidy would very excitedly run to the person who won the auction to congratulate them. Everyone was having a great time and David came back around 10:20 p.m. in a red velour outfit. He'd said he'd sing earlier but since 'Boogie Nights' didn't know any of his songs and he doesn't sing disco, he didn't sing after-all. David then thanked everyone for coming and those that helped put everything together, especially his wife Sue and the other volunteers. David posed for a few photos and then left after a very long and busy day. The photo above was taken as David left. It was taken by Debbie DePasquale.
