The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 14 (14)
Title: The Red Woodloe Story
First aired: January 1, 1971
Synopsis:
During a stopover in a small town, the Partridges and their manager Reuben Kincaid attend the Sunday Church service. A very interesting man plays guitar and sings there. Shirley thinks that the man is a folk legend, Red Woodloe. Reuben is sceptical because it was thought that Red had been dead for years.
They invite him to lunch after the service, and the man is really the famous artist, Red Woodloe. When asked why he quit show business, Red says that he likes being free, he is happy with his life in that small town doing odd jobs for a living. The Partridges like him very much as Red is a born storyteller. As they would love to hear more interesting stories they ask him to go with them and spend some time at the Partridges’ house in San Pueblo. Red agrees to go with them.
He is a very kind and charming man and especially makes friends with Tracey. He helps her overcome the fear of going to sleep in a dark room.
The Partridges want to help Red retrieve his career but it’s not easy to book him as Red was out of show business for many years. Shirley decides that he will perform with them. But Red, while watching The Partridge Family on stage, is so overwhelmed with a stage fright that he runs away and leaves San Pueblo.Shirley goes after him. Red will be given another chance. This time it is little Tracey who helps him to fight the stage fright. Red’s gig is very successful, but he doesn’t want to travel and perform, and doesn't want the money he could earn. It’s because he enjoys his freedom and the simple life he has. The family, especially the kids, are disappointed first, but they understand, and they still remain friends. Keith writes a song which The Partridge Family and Red Woodloe perform together during the Sunday Church service.
