The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 19 (19)
Title: To Play Or Not To Play
First aired: February 5, 1971
Synopsis:
After arriving in town to play at a club, Laurie finds out Marc Baldwin, a former classmate works there. There's barely enough time for introductions to the family when club owner Harry Marino comes out, orders Marc back to the kitchen and the Partridges inside to rehearse. After the family has only rehearsed through one number, they see Marc come storming out of the kitchen with Marino shouting behind him. Laurie finds out that Marc and the rest of the employees who are all college students, are going on strike, for better pay and working conditions. Laurie thinks it would be wrong to cross their picket lines and decides not to perform. Shirley realizes Laurie's sense of moral obligation but there is also the family's legal obligation to consider.
Shirley tries to talk to Marino on behalf of Laurie and the strikers but he won't listen. He only shouts and threatens to sue for breach of contract if Laurie or any other member of the family fails to appear.
Danny comes up with a plan, he tells Marc that Marino is ready to settle the strike. Marc and Danny go into Marino's office, then Danny locks the door. Those three are stuck there until they can come up with an agreement.
Marino finally gives into Marc's reasonable demands, Marc calls off the strike, and The Partridge Family go onstage as scheduled.
