Title: When Mother Gets Married

Synopsis:

After four weeks on tour, The Partridge Family stays for a while at a hotel where Shirley meets an old friend, a handsome bachelor named Larry Metcalf. He invites her for dinner, and when the kids see their mother ready for her date, they are very surprised that she can look so glamorous.

After that first date Larry and Shirley spend a lot of time together, and when Shirley is nearly late for the performance, her kids think that the situation is serious, and Larry is probably a fortune hunter or a gigolo. They don’t believe that he can be genuinely interested in their mother.

Danny calls Reuben, and their manager checks up on Larry’s finances, and it appears that he can’t be a fortune hunter, being himself quite wealthy.

Chris and Tracy return to a hotel room very worried because they’ve learned that Larry waits for a diamond ring to be delivered. A diamond ring for a lady, to mark a special occasion, a start of new life. The Kids are now sure that the ring is for their mother. Keith and Laurie see Larry giving a ring to a young and beautiful girl. They look very happy together and embrace each other. Keith decides that he should tell his mum that Larry meets with another woman. Larry walks in during Keith’s revelations and explains that the girl is his niece, and the ring is a present to mark her graduation.

The kids are very sorry that they’ve interfered, and they feel that because of them maybe Larry won’t see Shirley again. They meet with him and tell Larry not to be afraid and he should ask Shirley to marry him.

Shirley and Larry like each other very much but they are not in love. They don’t want kids to feel guilty, so they play a little scene together where Larry pretends to asks Shirley to marry him and she says that she doesn’t love him. The children are happy that mum is not going to be married after all. Next day Shirley and Larry, a little sad, say goodbye to each other and the Partridges are on the road again.
