The Partridge Family - Season 1, Episode 8
Title: But The Memory Lingers On
First aired: November 13, 1970
Synopsis:
The Partridge Family is booked to perform at the children’s hospital. They still have some time, so they stop on their way to have a picnic. While they are having a good time, a skunk sneaks on board the bus. They discover it very quickly and throw it out the bus, but the damage is done. The skunk left his smell inside the bus making the journey impossible. They do their best to get rid of the odour, but nothing helps. The family has to find a place to have a bath and Shirley stops the bus outside the motel. Shirley and the kids have their mouths covered by scarves because of the odour left by a skunk, so the motel manager takes them for masked bandits. He calls the police, but police officers let the family go, they don’t want to have such smelly suspects at the police station.
Finally, Shirley and the kids get to their hotel, go upstairs to their suite, and everyone can finally bathe. But when The Partridge Family's manager, Reuben Kincaid comes, he is shocked by the strange smell in the room. He says it’s the smell of 'freshly washed skunk'.
The situation looks hopeless. The children at the hospital are waiting for their favorite group, but Shirley and the kids can’t perform smelling like that. Reuben has an idea that a bath in tomato juice can remove a skunk’s smell. He orders a huge amount of juice upstairs and the family has another bath. The tomato juice helps, but when Shirley and the kids open their suitcases they have another unpleasant surprise because all their clothes still smell of skunk.
Danny, in Reuben’s suit, is sent downstairs to organize some clothes. He manages to get some from a show girl and the hotel’s guests, using his charm or paying for clothes. Each member of the family has a different, not matching outfit, but they at last can go to hospital and perform for their very happy audience.
