The Partridge Family - Season 2, Episode 14 (39)
Title: Where Do Mermaids Go?
First aired: December 31, 1971
Synopsis:
After 3 weeks of touring, The Partridge Family needs some rest. Together with their manager, Reuben Kincaid, they are on their way home, when Shirley proposes to go different way and have a picnic in a nice place. They stop their bus near the lake, and Danny notices that a beautiful girl, obviously without a swimming suit, swims there. They invite her for a picnic.
Her name is Jenny. She has been travelling on her own for a year, enjoying her freedom. While they are talking a police car appears and a police officer asks if they have seen a lonely hippie girl. She hasn’t done anything wrong, but decent citizens don’t like hippies.
Shirley tells the police officer that Jenny is with them. Later, they invite the girl to their house. At night, Keith drives the bus home while the rest of the family sleep and Jenny keeps him company. They talk about work, money, and freedom. Keith doesn’t know that this conversation is of great importance.
When Jenny leaves after a few days, the family discovers that Jenny has left them a very generous gift, a bank book containing one million dollars. She also leaves a note, stating that she is wealthy and hopes the family finds a real freedom with the help of money, as she has.
The kids are thrilled, but Shirley doesn’t know what to think about it. Apparently, everybody in San Pueblo knows about their money and wants to sell them something. After a few days, everybody is tired of the attention and the kids also discover that money which hasn't been earned doesn’t bring happiness.
Shirley wants to give the money back, but the police can’t find Jenny. They decide to go to the same spot again and find Jenny there. They give the money back and return to their former lifestyle.
