First aired: October 13, 1972
Synopsis:
In the middle of the night the family wakes up to a loud and strange noise; someone is knocking on their door. Snake, a member of a motorcycle gang and a good friend, has come to say goodbye. He’s been sure his girlfriend for 2 years, Penny Sweetweather, loves him, but because she doesn’t want to marry him, he is very unhappy and wants to commit a suicide. Of course, Shirley asks Snake to stay with the family.
The next day, when Shirley, Keith and Laurie return from shopping, they see that a lot of bikes parked outside their house. Shirley is furious that the careless drivers have destroyed her flower beds. The house is full of Snake’s friends, invited inside by Danny who’s thought their company would cheer up Snake.
Shirley tells everybody to leave and later asks Snake why Penny doesn’t want to marry him. Shirley, Keith and Laurie are very astonished by Snake’s answer. He proposed over the phone and can’t understand why everybody thinks this is not the right thing to do. He finally agrees that maybe he should propose in person, but he has no idea how to do it, so Shirley teaches him.
Snake dresses up in tuxedo and proposes once more, but again Penny rejects his offer of marriage. She feels that he is making fun of her, dressing in those fine clothes. Snake is very depressed and wants to go to Alaska and become a hermit. At this point Shirley decides that she has to have a serious talk with Penny.
Penny loves Snake, but she wants him to stop being in a gang, settle down and get a job. Shirley tells the girl how much Snake cares about her and how is unhappy and ready to change his life. Penny comes with Shirley to the Partridges house and finally accepts Snake’s proposal. A very happy Snake tells Penny that because of her he will get a job as a mechanic.
The wedding is organized by the family and it's a wonderful and touching event with the participation of the groom’s parents and friends. The Partridge Family sings for the newlyweds and their guests.
